BE2008 – Encontro Nacional Betão Estrutural 2008 Guimarães – 5, 6, 7 de Novembro de 2008 Variante de Alcácer do Sal – enquadramento, definição geral da obra e execução Fernando 1 Martins RESUMO A Variante de Alcácer integra-se no projecto ferroviário Sines – Évora – Elvas, identificado nas Orientações Estratégicas para o Sector Ferroviário, como uma das acções prioritárias relativas à rede ferroviária nacional, fundamental para o reforço da competitividade do Porto de Sines e sua articulação com a rede de plataformas logísticas (Poceirão e Elvas), com os portos de Setúbal e Lisboa e com a ligação de Alta Velocidade Lisboa/Madrid, reforçando as potencialidades de intermodalidade de Portugal com vista à integração ibérica, europeia e intercontinental. Esta ligação integra ainda a Rede Transeuropeia de Transportes - RTE-T - Projecto Prioritário n.º 16 “Eixo ferroviário de mercadorias Sines/ Algeciras – Madrid – Paris”. A Variante de Alcácer é ainda fundamental para a melhoria da oferta ferroviária de longo curso na ligação Lisboa – Algarve, pela redução do tempo de viagem e pela maior fiabilidade e segurança, constituindo-se como incentivo à transferência de parte do tráfego rodoviário para a ferrovia, com os impactos positivos que daí advêm. As condições da linha-férrea actual representam um estrangulamento, decorrente do atravessamento de baixas aluvionares geotecnicamente inadequadas para suportar aterros, particularmente ferroviários. EKONOMICKÉ ROZHĽADY – ECONOMIC REVIEW Ročník/Volume 50, 2/2021 161 TURKISH-CHINESE COOPERATION ON THE BELT & ROAD INITIATIVE BARBORA DRUŽBACKÁ1 Turecko-čínska spolupráca v rámci iniciatívy Jedno pásmo, jedna cesta Abstract: China’s ambition to get to the top of the largest economies is obvious. This is also the reason in 2013 China launched the largest initiative in modern history – the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) – to revive the ancient Silk Road using state-of-the-art technology and to connect the Eurasian continent. In this context, China has cooperated with many countries, including Turkey. China and Turkey have a history of complicated relations, but it turns out that it is the cooperation on the ongoing projects of the BRI that could improve relations. This article aims to highlight Turkey’s position in the BRI, describes relations between these countries, analyses mutual trade, Chinese investment in Turkish territory and focuses on major projects under the initiative. The results showed that countries in economic interest are deepening their mutual cooperation despite cultural and ethical problems, but there is a large imbalance in market reciprocity. The paper also points out the most important BRI projects, with the opening of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway being identified as the most significant project implemented. This railway opens an alternative land route so-called southern branch of the New Silk Road. Turkey is becoming an important country as a gateway to Europe. Introduction Vasco Da Gama Was Born in 1460 to a Wealthy Portuguese
Vasco da Gama Reading Comprehension Name_______________________ Introduction Vasco da Gama was born in 1460 to a wealthy Portuguese family in Sines, Portugal. Vasco’s father was also an explorer and was supposed to make the epic journey from Portugal to India that would eventually make his son famous. He died, however, before he could successfully complete the journey. In the late 1400s, Portugal was desperately trying to find a sea route to Asia so they could obtain spices for cheap prices. Explorers such as Bartholomeu Dias had made some progress in making the journey, but none had been able to sail around the southern tip of Africa at the Cape of Good Hope (where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans met) and into the Indian Ocean. Sailing to India In 1497, Portuguese King Manuel I financed a voyage led by Vasco da Gama. Many, however, still believed the trip to be impossible because they did not think the Atlantic Ocean connected with the Indian Ocean. Da Gama believed it was possible and left Lisbon, Portugal, on July 8, 1497, with four ships full of criminals and set sail on the Atlantic. After five months on the Atlantic, da Gama and his crew successfully sailed around the Cape of Good Hope and into the Indian Ocean on November 22. After making several stops along ports in the eastern African nations of Kenya, Mozambique, and others, and after struggling with Muslim traders in the Indian Ocean who did not take kindly to interference with their trade routes, da Gama reached Calicut, India, on May 20, 1498.
