Each signed their National Letter of Intent to join the men’s basketball program for the 2021-22 season. The Gophers have now signed at least one four-star prospect in each of the last seven years.

TREYTON THOMPSON 6-11 • ALEXANDRIA, MINN. • LA LUMIERE SCHOOL

Thompson is a four-star recruit and the No. 22 center nationally according to ESPN, while 247Sports’s Composite Rankings rates him as a three-star prospect, 122nd overall in the nation and No. 21 in the country at his position. He spent the first two years of his high school career at Alexandria High School, averaging 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore, before transferring to La Lumiere School where the Lakers are ranked third heading in to the season. On the AAU circuit, Thompson has played for D1 Minnesota, which is rated among the top programs in the country. PITINO ON THOMPSON: “Treyton Thompson was a very important recruit for us,” Pitino said. “It’s always huge to get one of the best players out of the state of Minnesota. Treyton has the size and skill to make an impact at the Big Ten level. He understands the value of playing for his home state and wants to be a part of special in the Maroon and Gold. Treyton will make an immediate impact on and off the court.”

KENNY POHTO 6-11 • STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN • SUNRISE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Pohto has also been tabbed a four-star recruit and the No. 23 center in the country by ESPN, while 247’s Composite Rankings has him as a three-star, No. 170 nationally overall and the No. 27 center. MaxPreps has the program ranked No. 2 in the country heading into the year. He shot 53 percent on his 3-pointers for the season and was able to guard multiple positions, including opposing team guards. Pohto represented Sweden at the 2018 FIBA U16 European Championships and averaged 13.1 points and 11.6 rebounds per contest. PITINO ON POHTO: “Kenny Pohto has a terrific skill set offensively,” Pitino said. “He can step outside and hit the three as well as score on the low . He fits perfectly into our system as well as in our locker room. He loves the game and lives in the gym. We know he will be a great addition to our basketball program.”
