At Orokonui Ecosanctuary walk a short trail to see bellbirds, takahe and kaka. Truby King’s house is nearby at picturesque Karitane, a favourite holiday spot. At Waikouaiti Johnny Jones’ Matanaka, built in the 1840s, is the South Island’s first European settler’s home. At Lake Hauroko we cruise out on this hidden treasure of Fiordland National Park
