2015 summer activities NEWS letter Across the Divide Copyright © 2015 Across the Divide Dear Friends and Colleagues: It is a great pleasure to report on another banner year for Across the Divide – Association of Chinese Artists in American Academia (ACAAA). In June 2015 an international conference - A Dialogue and Critical Analyses of the State of Art Education in a Globalized Culture - was held at Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China. The conference was co-sponsored by ACAAA, Beijing Normal University’s College of Art and Mass Communication, and the Chinese Artists Association’s Committee on Art Education. The goal for the Conference was to give ACAAA members the opportunity to share their experiences teaching in American universities with their Chinese counterparts, to reconnect with their cultural roots, and to create a cross-cultural dialogue about the state of, as well as new developments in, current art education at Chinese and American colleges. The Confer- ence elicited positive responses from the attendees including members from professional institutes of art education in China. Meanwhile, our forum members continue entering prestigious exhibitions, being featured in journals and maga- zines, giving academic presentations, publishing innovative scholarship, and contributing to the field nationally and internationally. In this newsletter, you will see our artists’ summer 2015 academic activities. Please also visit our webpage for a detailed report on ACAAA’s conference with Beijing Normal University. Editor Shaoqian Zhang Copyright © 2015 Across the Divide Chi Xun In summer 2015, Professor Xun Chi gave a number of guest lectures, at Graduate School of Education, Beijing University, China Central Academy of Fine Art, Capital Normal University, Beijing Industry University, and Hebei Technology University.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DALLAS NONPROFIT SIGNS THREEYEAR CHARTER WITH ARTPRIZE® GRAND RAPIDS TO LAUNCH INDEPENDENTLY ORGANIZED, ARTPRIZE DALLAS DALLAS, TX NOVEMBER 20, 2014 – A new Dallasbased nonprofit has entered into a threeyear charter agreement with ArtPrize in Grand Rapids to launch and steward a new, independently organized international art competition to be known as ArtPrize Dallas. The nineteenday event is slated to launch in Dallas, Texas in April 2016. The new event will be the first of its kind to form outside of Grand Rapids, and will be exclusive in the southwest region, including Colorado and Utah. Up to $500,000 in cash prizes and grants will be awarded to artists in its first year, and the event is expected to draw thousands of visitors from Texas and throughout the United States. “ArtPrize Dallas will create a lasting impact on the culture of Dallas by engaging and nurturing future artists and promoting a meaningful discussion of art and its role in society. Utilizing the same public/private partnership structure that has allowed our City to become a worldclass art destination, ArtPrize Dallas will highlight the creativity and innovative spirit that is such a major part of our City today.” Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings Founded in 2009 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, ArtPrize is an international art competition open to any artist and decided by public vote and expert jury. It invites artists to try out new ideas on a large and diverse population of people. It seeks to broaden the critical dialogue around contemporary art by awarding $560,000, including two $200,000 grand prizes – the world’s largest prizes for contemporary art.
