VIVENDI TROPHY Continental Europe vs. Great Britain and Ireland The Duel, 15-18 September, 2011 Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche (France) Press release – 18th May, 2011 In the spirit of Severiano Ballesteros Vivendi today announced that Jean Rene Fourtou, Chairman of the Vivendi Supervisory Board, has suggested to the PGA European Tour that the "Vivendi Trophy with Seve Ballesteros" be renamed to "The Vivendi Seve Trophy", in memory of Severiano Ballesteros who really knew, amongst other things, how to develop and support the spirit of match play and Golf as an all-round game. During the day's press conference, Scott Kelly, Marketing Director of the PGA European Tour emotionally welcomed the change on behalf of the PGA European Tour. The 2011 Vivendi Trophy The Vivendi Trophy takes place every two years, alternating with the Ryder Cup. The Vivendi Trophy 2011 will take place from 15th to 18th September at the Saint-Nom-La- Bretèche Golf Course. Following the success of its 2009 version, the second edition of this great competition, initiated and organised by CANAL+ EVENTS, will once again put the 10 best players in Continental Europe in a head to head with the elite of Great Britain and Ireland. A new champion at the helm Jose Maria Olazabal will succeed Colin Montgomerie as the Ryder Cup 2012 Team Captain. The Spanish champion will then head the Seve Trophy 2011. "Txema" may, like Monty did in 2009, oversee and observe the two teams. This arrival is also highly symbolic: we all remember the achievements of the fearsome pair in the Ryder Cup with Olazabal and Ballesteros.

News The European Tour Makes Its First Stop At Valderrama 15/04/2016 Spanish News Andalucía hosts the Open de España for the 11th time - European Tour Five decades after its first visit, the Open de España will return to Andalucía on April 14-17. Real Club Valderrama and the Sergio García Foundation, have joined forces in order to bring this storied event that has been played only ten times previously on Andalusian courses. The first was on 1966 at the neighbouring and newly opened RCG Sotogrande, where Argentina’s Roberto de Vicenzo stole the show. Four years later, RCG Las Brisas (Marbella), another Robert Trent Jones layout, saw a home winner. Ángel Gallardo, current Vice-Chairman of the European Tour, won by two shots over England’s Neil Coles and Ireland’s Christy O’Connor Sr. “I had always dreamt of winning my national Open; that was the most thrilling moment of my career” recalls Gallardo. Nine years passed before the event returned in 1979 to southern Spain at Torrequebrada (Benalmádena, Málaga), a course designed by the recently deceased José Gancedo — who was the leading amateur in the 1970 edition won by Gallardo. South African Dale Hayes triumphed at Torrequebrada, and for the first time, the event had a title sponsor – Benson&Hedges – something unthinkable up to then. Over the last decade, the Open de España has enjoyed the E: [email protected] W: www.assetfolio.com T: +34 952 908 120 support of Reale as its main sponsor. In 1983 and 1987, Marbella was again the venue. During the 80s, the Costa del Sol was widely recognized in the tourism industry for its first class hotel and golf infrastructure.

  • The Legend of the Kaanapali Golf Resort
The Legend of the Kaanapali Golf Resort When you consider all the great golf courses on the island of Maui, it is impossible to overlook the “Grand-daddy” of them all, the Royal Kaanapali Course. The Royal Kaanapali is one of only two courses in the State of Hawaii designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. (the other being the Mauna Kea Golf Club on the Big Island). This legendary course boasts decades of memorable moments in professional golf history. The challenge of the unpredictable West Maui trade winds and the huge rolling signature greens has lured many of the world’s all-time greatest golfers. Let’s join Kaanapali’s historical spectator gallery…. July, 1962…The Royal Kaanapali Course opened with a bang when the original crooner, Bing Crosby, christened play with the first-ever Kaanapali foursome. Although we don’t have his scorecard, legend has it that he played a solid round with an equal mixture of birdies and bogies. July, 1963…“ Shell’s Wonderful World of Golf,” an ABC television series, made its Hawaiian debut on the Royal Kaanapali Course. A match-play series, this duel featured Dave Regan from the USA and Bob Charles from New Zealand. Regan birdied the first hole to take an early lead, but Charles rebounded with a beautiful round of 66 to easily outplay his opponent. Kaanapali became a favorite to this New Zealander, whose future held more than just this win. December, 1964… Royal Kaanapali hosted the Canada Cup (now recognized as the World Cup of Golf). Many great golfers represented their countries, including Chi Chi Rodriguez (Puerto Rico), Bob Charles (New Zealand), Peter Thompson (Australia) and the Black Knight, Gary Player (South Africa).
