  • Good Day Sunshine: Stock Returns and the Weather
THE JOURNAL OF FINANCE VOL. LVIII, NO. 3 JUNE 2003 Good Day Sunshine: Stock Returns and theWeather DAVID HIRSHLEIFER and TYLER SHUMWAY n ABSTRACT Psychological evidence and casual intuition predict that sunny weather is as- sociated with upbeat mood. This paper examines the relationship between morning sunshine in the city of a country’s leading stock exchange and daily market index returns across 26 countries from 1982 to 1997. Sunshine is strongly signi¢cantly correlated with stock returns. After controlling for sun- shine, rain and snow are unrelated to returns. Substantial use of weather- based strategies was optimal for a trader with very low transactions costs. However, because these strategies involve frequent trades, fairly modest costs eliminate the gains. These ¢ndings are di⁄cult to reconcile with fully rational price setting. SUNSHINE AFFECTS MOOD, as evidenced by song and verse, daily experience, and formal psychological studies. But does sunlight a¡ect the stock market? The traditional e⁄cient markets view says no, with minor quali¢cations. If sun- light a¡ects the weather, it can a¡ect agricultural and perhaps other weather- related ¢rms. But in modern economies in which agriculture plays a modest role, it seems unlikely that whether it is cloudy outside the stock exchange today should a¡ect the rational price of the nation’s stock market index. (Even in coun- tries where agriculture plays a large role, it is not clear that one day of sunshine versus cloud cover at the stock exchange should be very informative about har- vest yield.) An alternative view is that sunlight a¡ects mood, and that people tend to eval- uate future prospects more optimistically when they are in a good mood than when they are in a bad mood.

Prince (Human and Social Development) Departmental Member ii Abstract This thesis explores the topic of belonging: both the sense and experience of it as well as the relationship to individual and collective well-being. Through in- depth interviews with five leaders and advocates in the social justice community, I explore their perspectives on the topic, significant influences, the power of the experience, and the relationship between inclusion and belonging. Further, the capacity for belonging to influence and impact social issues such as marginalization, discrimination, and poverty are explored. Methods for fostering belonging are also considered with a view to suggesting recommendations for promoting a lens of belonging as a means for renewing a commitment to the beloved community. • MTO 11.4: Spicer, Review of the Beatles As Musicians
Volume 11, Number 4, October 2005 Copyright © 2005 Society for Music Theory Mark Spicer Received October 2005 [1] As I thought about how best to begin this review, an article by David Fricke in the latest issue of Rolling Stone caught my attention.(1) Entitled “Beatles Maniacs,” the article tells the tale of the Fab Faux, a New York-based Beatles tribute group— founded in 1998 by Will Lee (longtime bassist for Paul Schaffer’s CBS Orchestra on the Late Show With David Letterman)—that has quickly risen to become “the most-accomplished band in the Beatles-cover business.” By painstakingly learning their respective parts note-by-note from the original studio recordings, the Fab Faux to date have mastered and performed live “160 of the 211 songs in the official canon.”(2) Lee likens his group’s approach to performing the Beatles to “the way classical musicians start a chamber orchestra to play Mozart . as perfectly as we can.” As the Faux’s drummer Rich Pagano puts it, “[t]his is the greatest music ever written, and we’re such freaks for it.” [2] It’s been over thirty-five years since the real Fab Four called it quits, and the group is now down to two surviving members, yet somehow the Beatles remain as popular as ever. Hardly a month goes by, it seems, without something new and Beatle-related appearing in the mass media to remind us of just how important this group has been, and continues to be, in shaping our postmodern world. For example, as I write this, the current issue of TV Guide (August 14–20, 2005) is a “special tribute” issue commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Beatles’ sold-out performance at New York’s Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965—a concert which, as the magazine notes, marked the “dawning of a new era for rock music” where “[v]ast outdoor shows would become the superstar standard.”(3) The cover of my copy—one of four covers for this week’s issue, each featuring a different Beatle—boasts a photograph of Paul McCartney onstage at the Shea concert, his famous Höfner “violin” bass gripped in one hand as he waves to the crowd with the other.

  • Paul Mccartney, 1980-1999
Paul McCartney from Wings through the 90's McCartney II Columbia FC‐36511 May 21, 1980 About ten years after recording McCartney by himself, Paul got several songs together and recorded them‐‐again alone‐‐on somewhat of a lark. Then Paul embarked on his ill‐fated 1980 tour of Japan (which resulted in his being jailed for drug possession). After returning to the safety of his own home, he was urged to release the album, and he did. The album contrasts well with McCartney, for this second production contains numerous instruments and electronic tricks that were not present on the 1970 release. Side One is particularly interesting. The solo version of "Coming Up" is followed by the fun track, "Temporary Secretary" (released as a single in England). The almost‐lament, "On the Way," is then succeeded by "Waterfalls," Paul's second (US) single from the album. "Bogey Music," from Side Two, is also a standout. John Lennon heard a song from McCartney II and thought that Paul sounded sad. When the album was released in the US, a bonus one‐sided single ‐‐ the hit version of "Coming Up"‐‐was included with the LP. This hit was enough to propel the album to the #3 position on the charts, during a time when disco was now on the wane. "Waterfalls" Columbia 1‐11335 Jul. 22, 1980 The lovely ballad about protectiveness was one of the standouts from McCartney II. After "Coming Up," it received the most airplay and the most positive response from Paul's friends. As a single, though, the song fared poorly, only reaching #83...one of Paul's worst showings to date.

Mexican Single Releases Identification Guide Revised: 28 My 16 Musart Singles Since Mexico is part of North America, Capitol Records USA (whose role it was to oversee Beatles releases in North America) was able to dictate how their records were marketed in Mexico. However, prior to 1965, Capitol had no record company offices in Mexico and therefore licensed its releases to the Musart label, a prominent Mexican record label. All Mexican singles on the Musart label are somewhat scarce; consequently, this list is incomplete. The Beatles' Musart singles are particularly hard to find in VG+ or better condition. singles originally released on this label style Catalog Number "She Loves You"/"I Saw Her Standing There" 3576 "Can't Buy Me Love"/"You Can't Do That" 3595 "From Me to You"/"This Boy" 3596 "I Want to Hold Your Hand"/"I'll Get You" 3605 "Roll Over Beethoven"/"All My Loving" 3611 "Twist and Shout"/"Do You Want to Know a Secret" 3615 "Hard Day's Night"/"Things We Said Today" 3669 "I Should Have Known Better"/"Anytime at All" 3721 "I'll Be Back"/"Love Me Do" 3722 "And I Love Her"/"Tell Me Why" 3761 "I Feel Fine"/"She's a Woman" 3764 "Eight Days a Week"/"I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" 3821 "Rock and Roll Music"/"Baby's in Black" 3823 NOTE 1: Musart promotional singles have orange backgrounds with the words "PROHIBIDA SU VENDA" and "PROMOCION" on the label. • The Spiritual Practice of Trusting in God
The Spiritual Practice of Trusting in God A speech by Rick Hocker on the topic of trusting in God, the main theme of his book, Four in the Garden. June 6, 2015 If you like inspirational articles such as this, subscribe at http://www.rickhocker.com/subscribe.html I remember the morning I ran out of food. I was a poor college student attending Cal Poly State University just a few miles from here. I had no money to buy food. When I poured the crumbs of my last box of cereal into my bowl, I said to myself, "Cool. God is on the line to feed me today." On that day, I had no one to rely on but God and I expected God to step up to the plate. That morning, a student brought donuts to class. I know they aren't nutritious, but I saw them as God's provision. To be honest, I've always considered donuts as food from heaven. At lunchtime, a stranger asked me if I wanted his extra sandwich. When I said yes, he also gave me his apple. That night, a friend treated me to dinner. No one knew my need except for God, and God provided that day. Because I had focused all of my expectation on God, I experienced His provision in a greater way than I ever had before. I trusted God and He came through. Have you ever wondered what the difference is between faith and trust? Faith is a belief. This belief emanates from the soul, more than from the mind.

1 Playlist June 7th 2015 OPEN 2 The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour - Magical Mystery Tour (EP) (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocals: Paul and John When Paul McCartney was in the U.S. in early April 1967 he came up with the idea for a Beatles television film about a mystery tour on a bus. During the April 11 flight back home he began writing lyrics for the title song and sketching out some ideas for the film. Upon his arrival in London, Paul pitched his idea to Brian Epstein who happily approved. Paul then met with John to go over the details and the two began work on the film’s title track. The title track was written primarily by Paul but was not finished when McCartney brought the song in to be recorded on April 25, 1967. John helped with the missing pieces during the session. On U.S. album: Magical Mystery Tour - Capitol LP The Beatles - The Fool On The Hill - Magical Mystery Tour (EP) (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: Paul Sitting alone at the piano, Paul McCartney recorded a mono two-track demo of “The Fool On the Hill” on September 6, 1967. A more proper recording would take place September 25. On the 25th three takes of the basic rhythm track were recorded, including harmonicas played by John and George. Paul first brought the song to John’s attention in mid-March while the two were working on the lyrics for “With A Little Help From My Friends.” John said to write down the lyrics so he wouldn’t forget them.
