Mom lives with me and my brother in Jidhafs, Bahrain. She’s 41 years old but she looks younger. Najat works in NBB bank in Isa Town. She’s a horror fan just like me. Mother is really short, she’s 153 cms only. Najat has got a round face with full lips. She has got short brown hair and a small nose. Mom is a bit chubby. She has got small brown eyes that are full of hope and love. Najat is a really cheerful person. But, sometimes she gets mad for no reason. Her honesty made her really popular in her work place. However, she gets easily scared by any kind of rats. Mom is also known for her brave soul and her amazing personality. Najat won a lot of things in her lifetime. When she was 32, she won 2nd place for best poem writer in her work place. Her caring about me and my brother -as she’s alone- shows everyone who doesn’t know her well how great she is in everything she does. 3 | P a g e My mother means the world to me and I’ll love her forever. She gave me her soul and for that I’ll give her my all. Whenever someone is going to ask me to write about my hero, I will choose her every time. Written by: Sarah Mohammed Yousif Class: 4 Chem 5 4 | P a g e Module -6- Dream School You are studying in a new school, but you still think it could be better. Write an essay about your ideal school. My ideal school would be called “Horizon High School”. It would be located near the beach. It would be a huge school with a high amount of students. Horizon School would consist of 20 buildings and 104 classes. The classes would be very big and spacious. The facilities of the school would be several like the huge library. It would contain different types of books and there would be more than 2 million books there. It would also have three laboratories each one of them equipped with different scientific stuffs. Moreover, the school would have a lounge where everybody can take a rest and enjoy their time there. In addition, there would be a big e-class with an active board and Mac laptops for each student. Last but not least, it would have a great food court with different types of restaurants, where you can enjoy the delicious and tasty food. The timetable would be very organized. There would be 8 lessons and 3 breaks a day. Besides, the rules would be very strict and the punishments would be very severe. The uniforms would be a must and no phones or electronics would be allowed. 5 | P a g e Students would study useful and usual subjects like: Maths, Physics, Chemistry and English. In addition to these subjects, there would be optional subjects too which most students would like them like: driving lessons, make-up lessons and chess club. There would be also many after school activities like: dancing lessons. Or you can join the cooking lessons to learn how to make delicious food. Moreover, if you are creative, you can join the designing club. Also, if you love sports, you can be one of the school’s team members. I think my school would be a great place to spend time there because it would balance between education and entertainment so the graduated students would be well educated and talented too. Written by: Jenan S.Adnan Shubbar Class: 4 Chem 5 6 | P a g e Module -6- Dream School You are studying in a new school, but you still think it could be better. Write an essay about your ideal school. Currently, I’m studying at Jidhafs Secondary School. It is a very big school located in Jidhafs Town. It is a bit old and was opened in 1984. There are more than four buildings, each with two floors. Jidhafs School is a very good school but it needs some improvements. In this essay, I’m going to describe my ideal school. My ideal school would be called “The Stars”. It would be a huge school located near the sea in Amwaj Islands. There would be more than three buildings; each building consists of three floors. There would be 1000 students only! The classes would be big and wide. Also, they wouldn’t be full; each class would not have more than 20 students, so they can feel comfortable and free. My dream school would have many different facilities. For example, there would be a big library that would have different kinds of books and 7 computers. Students can use the Internet and finish their projects at any time. Also, there would be a coffee shop and small restaurants instead of the cafeteria with lots of tables and chairs for 7 | P a g e students to sit on. Moreover, there would be a huge fountain surrounded by colorful plants and flowers, a guitar shaped swimming pool and a bit cage of birds for a better learning environment. Not to mention the electronic class that would have 40 computers all connected to the Internet and three smart boards to make lessons more fun and interactive. My ideal school would start at 8:00 am and would finish at 2:00 in the afternoon. There would be 6 periods. There would be subjects like Arabic, English and Math in addition to the creative and remedial classes every week. There would also be after school activities such as drama club, chess club and a music club that would be full of instruments. The rules would not be so strict and so different than Jidhafs School, for example, the students can wear anything they want. There wouldn’t be a uniform! Also, the students can bring their phones but they are not allowed to bring cameras. Students should sign some papers if they were late. To sum up, my ideal school would be so amazing! I wish the Ministry of Education could build a school like this in Bahrain. In my opinion, all the students would like to join the school. INVESTING IN BAHRAIN Property tax & market insight Autumn 2017 Investing in Bahrain – Property tax & market insight Contents 3 Introduction 4 Bahrain residential property market snapshot 5 Bahrain commercial property market snapshot 6 Considerations for investing in Bahrain Introduction Cluttons has partnered with Trowers & Hamlins to produce a guide to investing in the property market in Bahrain. This has been a cross team effort, working with Trowers & Hamlins in Bahrain to simplify the obligations for those investing in the Kingdom’s residential and commercial markets. The document also includes an update on the residential and office markets in Bahrain and aims to provide a quick and easily digestible resource for all investors and purchasers. Undoubtedly, as we enter the fourth year since the shock collapse in oil values, Bahrain is still working its way through a challenging period, with positive Government intervention programmes being rolled out across the Kingdom. The benefits of this intervention are being dampened somewhat by a slight widening in the country’s GDP-to-debt ratio, however there are some encouraging signs emerging. The Government is putting the pieces of its vision for Bahrain into place and we are already seeing this in many segments of the economy. For instance, with the aid of the GCC Support Fund, the non-oil sector has remained buoyant, growing by 3.7% last year, lifted by wide-ranging infrastructure and construction projects around Bahrain (Oxford Economics). In fact, in early August, the Economic Development Board (EDB) announced that some USD 80 billion worth of construction and infrastructure projects are currently underway or planned for Bahrain, which is expected to help underpin economic growth over the short to medium term.

  • Imagining Spatial Geographies: Architecture of Poetic Terrains in the Artificial Islands of Bahrain
ISVS e-journal, Vol. 7, no.2, April, 2020 Imagining Spatial Geographies: Architecture of poetic terrains in the artificial islands of Bahrain Ranjith Dayaratne University of Bahrain, Bahrain [email protected] Abstract Spatial geographies are both real and imagined. Architecture as a transformation of a site emerges from the real and simultaneously suppresses its reality. It impositions imaginations upon the real and fuses with its geographical existence to construct images to incite re- imaginations and augmented imaginations. The geography of the site is thus the archetypal contour of such imaginations. But how does architecture imagine spatial geographies in a site that is fluid in which to anchor spaces and places for habitation. In Bahrain and generally in the Arabian Gulf, architects have recently been challenged to imagine poetic terrains in water in the creation of artificial islands for human habitation and dwelling. While some islands are often geometrically and metaphorically shaped and remain dislodged from the contours of the seas to imaginations of their own, some remain curiously connected to the sites yet unimaginable as an emergence of the site. This paper examines the sources of geographical forms of the artificial islands of Bahrain and how they connect or disconnect to the geographies of the sea or the adjoining lands. By taking three case studies, it divulges the conceptualisations and imaginations of the spatial geographies of these islands and maps out their architecture. Although sometimes in the absence of differentiated spatial geographies on the surface, the seas struggle to produce forms and shapes on their own, distinct and decisive forces remain underneath that determine the configurations of the Islands.
