Paddleaway 44 www.canoeicf.com PADDLEAWAY 44 December 2012 – Issue 44 President’s Diary From 16-17 November the ICF held its Congress in St. Petersburg, Russia. During this time I took the opportunity to speak to many of the delegates who came from the 5 continents. Prior to the Congress a Board Meeting was held where many of the points raised at the Congress were discussed. I was also honoured to have been asked by INSIDE THIS ISSUE the Women’s Commission to give the opening speech at The ICF Gender Equity Workshop which was held on 15 November. The President’s Diary DEADLINE – Nomination and Shortly after the Congress I attended David Cal’s (ESP) book presentation. Appointment of Officials for ICF Events (1) “The Last 100 Days before the Olympic Games” chronicles his daily activities Universality Places for the Nanjing 2014 leading to London 2012 where he took silver in the Men’s C1 1000m. On 24 Youth Olympic Games (2) Bidding for 2014-2017 ICF World November I attended the IAAF Centenary Gala that brought together the past, Championships & World Cups (3) present and future of athletics. This Gala took place in Barcelona. Registration Open for 2013 ICF Talent Identification Programme (4) In the last week of the month (29 – 30 November) I was at the ICF List of ICF Executive Comm. Members (5) Headquarters in Lausanne to discuss the Federation’s finances and the Media Questionnaire for 2013 Events (6) Governance Review. During this period I also attended the IOC biennial Ocean Racing Rules (7) Olympic Golden Rings awards where Canoe Slalom and Canoe Sprint picked Dragon Boat Letter from SportAccord up silver and bronze respectively for the best TV productions at the Games. President (8) Dragon Boat ICF Coaches Education From 5 – 8 December I attended the European Olympic Committee’s General Information (9) Assembly where it was voted to launch a European Games multi-sport REMINDER: Qualification for 2013 World Games in Cali, Columbia (10) competition. Baku, Azerbaijan will host the first Games in 2015 and Canoeing 2013 Rules, Statutes & Minutes Available will more than likely be represented. Online in January (11) Athlete Eligibility Request (12) I will also attend the 100 year anniversary of the Spanish Olympic Committee ICF Headquarters: Office Closed for which will also be attended by IOC President Jacques Rogge. All nominations must be submitted to the ICF Headquarters and the respective Technical Committee Chair. The application form to nominate officials can be found on the ICF website. www.canoeicf.com Please send nominations to [email protected] and the respective Chair of the Technical Committee. 2 Universality Places for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games Document available: Nanjing 2014 - Universality Places - Allocation procedure for eligible NOCs The IOC has sent a communication to all eligible NOCs to inform them on the allocation of Universality Places for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games. National Federations are requested to carefully review this letter for a better understanding of the universality places as well as the “Nanjing 2014 - Universality Places - Allocation procedure for eligible NOCs” document included in the Newsletter. Please note that these universality places only apply to 104 National Federations. TIP Canoe Slalom is to identify potential elite athletes from the new and developing National Federations who will attend the main Continental and World Slalom events for 2013. The targeted classes are K1W and K1M, C1W and C1M, C2M. As it has been done previously, documentation will be sent out to each NF early 2013 and registrations will be expected before February 2013. National Federations are required to suggest names of paddlers. Please note that athletes registered for TIP 2012 might continue in the programme for as long as possible.     2012 TEST EVENT For THE WORLD GAMES 2013 Cali, Colombia PARAGLIDING ACCURACY THE WORLD GAMES TEST EVENT: 7th to 11th August 2012 Introduction: The World Games takes place every four years, and is the second largest international multi‐ discipline sports event. Cali is the host city for the 2013 World Games. The only Airsports participating in the 2013 World Games are: Paragliding Accuracy and Parachuting Canopy Piloting. There will be Model Aircraft demonstrations also. The Test Event for the Paragliding Accuracy and Parachuting Canopy Piloting will take place a the official competition venue, 7th to 11th August, 2012. LANGUAGE The English written language is the only acceptable language for all official communications relating to these Competition Rules and the conduct of all Wildwater Canoeing ICF competitions.
