Allow me once again to speak to you from the heart. Below is a short T piece that I shared with my srudents and their parents some years ago, inspired by the Frustrations and difficulties of my job. In one of my mosr searching moments, I needed ro find meaning in my life and work. This is bur a snapshor ofthat conrinuing search. Why I Teach Music to Kids ... Not because I expecr that my srudenrs will all major in music, Not because I expect that my srudents will play all of their lives, Not so that my srudents can do norhing, relax, and just have fun, Rather ... So that they might be more humane, So rhat they might gain the abiliry to recognize beaury, So that they will be more sensitive, So that they have the opporruniry to experience personal excellence, So rhat they will understand pride, enthusiasm, and spirit, So that they will understand compassion and gencleness, So that they might come to understand that it is not enough in life just to be happy, bur come ro achieve the abiliry ro make a difference, to conuibute, ro share, and to make their moments on earth meaningful. Friends, I will conrinue ro engage myselfin those AVS and NG projects that are of irnporrance to us all. To the extent that my advice is requested, I will act as a resource to our new AVS leadership team. Bur, my opporruniry to speak to you regularly and direccly is now past. Thank you, each of you, for allowing me to make a difference, to conuibute, and to share; you have helped to make my life rich and meaningful.
