Nah, y’all. I knew him before he was famous, and I AM at liberty to share my story, so why the hell not. Maybe it’ll help someone. 7:46 AM - 11 Feb 2019 Read the full thread: https://twitter.com/MichellMcC73/status/1094729435583037440 The full Twitter thread describes Vic Mignogna as a cameraman and music video producer for Thomas Road Baptist Church, which is affiliated with private school Liberty Christian Academy, which is in turn affiliated with Vic’s alma mater Liberty University. Twitter user @MichellMcC73 alleges that, while working as assistant director for Liberty Christian Academy’s spring stageplay, Vic knowingly made sexual advances on her, then a student and a minor. These events allegedly occured early in 1989, when Vic was 26** years old, in Lynchburg, Virginia. RobinEgg Posted 22 Oct 2017 Every once in a while I poke around online to see if other girls experienced what I did from this creep. While he was still living in Lynchburg, VA - where he’d graduated from Liberty University - he lured me to his house under the guise of wanting to “show me a new worship video he’d produced”. Next thing I knew he was shirtless and on top of me. I was 16 and stupid. He was 27** and so, SO slick. I got away, and he got away with it. • The Formation of Temporary Communities in Anime Fandom: a Story of Bottom-Up Globalization ______
THE FORMATION OF TEMPORARY COMMUNITIES IN ANIME FANDOM: A STORY OF BOTTOM-UP GLOBALIZATION ____________________________________ A Thesis Presented to the Faculty of California State University, Fullerton ____________________________________ In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Arts in Geography ____________________________________ By Cynthia R. Davis Thesis Committee Approval: Mark Drayse, Department of Geography & the Environment, Chair Jonathan Taylor, Department of Geography & the Environment Zia Salim, Department of Geography & the Environment Summer, 2017 ABSTRACT Japanese animation, commonly referred to as anime, has earned a strong foothold in the American entertainment industry over the last few decades. Anime is known by many to be a more mature option for animation fans since Western animation has typically been sanitized to be “kid-friendly.” This thesis explores how this came to be, by exploring the following questions: (1) What were the differences in the development and perception of the animation industries in Japan and the United States? (2) Why/how did people in the United States take such interest in anime? (3) What is the role of anime conventions within the anime fandom community, both historically and in the present? These questions were answered with a mix of historical research, mapping, and interviews that were conducted in 2015 at Anime Expo, North America’s largest anime convention. This thesis concludes that anime would not have succeeded as it has in the United States without the heavy involvement of domestic animation fans. Fans created networks, clubs, and conventions that allowed for the exchange of information on anime, before Japanese companies started to officially release anime titles for distribution in the United States.

Hoping that SF can manage to do the same, I set out to create a list of great books for 2010. The realization of how little I got read last year, coupled with the discovery of exactly how many people do exactly the same thing was bit humbling. So, instead, I point you to a few places where you may discover other people’s lists. Strange Love For Science Fiction Blog has interesting tidbits regularly, but for today, the writer points to several lists, including on YA specific: http://strangelove4sf.blogspot.com/2011/01/bestsfbooks2010listmania.html Amazon lets you select between Editors’ Picks in book and ebook format, or top customer picks (presumably by sales) http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&plgroup=1&docId=1000628171 Coming at it from the other end, in 2009, Fantasy Book Critic’s Liviu listed 10 most anticipated reads of 2010.

Not much has happened to me in the last few months, mostly work and in the last few weeks yard work. I did sign my first part lease on a horse, which is exciting for me, and the start of one of my long time dreams, to own my own horse. I’ve also been reorganizing my craft room. Mostly this means I put up a bunch of shelves and moved bags off my table and onto the shelves. One thing that has been consuming some of my time recently is a drawing show on YouTube called Pub Draw. It’s as much fun to watch as it is to draw along. For those of you into comics it’s hosted by Babs Tarr and she is teaching a bunch of voice actors to draw, or she’s herding cats. I haven’t actually figured that part out yet. Usually they draw a specific character in each episode, but the skills can be used draw just about any sort of humanoid character –sadly no gryphons or other types yet. Anyway, if you’re interested in drawing maybe check it out and if you draw some of your own characters, send your drawings to one of the ezines out there.

Signed by the final Examining Committee: Chair Examiner Dr. Sandra Annett Examiner Dr. Joshua Neves Supervisor Dr. Marc Steinberg Approved by: Dr. Marc Steinberg, Graduate Program Director 2021 Annie Gérin, Dean of Faculty iii ABSTRACT The Fan-Oriented Work: Anime Fan Culture as Narrative in North American Media Victoria Berndt Japanese animation, popularly referred to as ‘anime’, has recently experienced a shift in North American consumer contexts from its initial scarcity in overseas markets to its overwhelming presence online and in physical spaces. With streaming services such as Crunchyroll (an anime-specific streaming service) and Netflix’s selection of anime increasing its availability outside of Japan over the past decade, North American viewers are now able to interact with anime through heavily connected digital landscapes (Annett 6).
