This document is your step-by-step guide to navigating the quote confirmation service and placing your orders for AWS Elemental products through your AWS account. BEFORE YOU BEGIN: AWS ACCOUNT REQUIREMENTS AND PERMISSIONS You need an active AWS account in order to use this service. Instructions on creating a new AWS account, as well as granting IAM service policies to other users of your AWS account, are in the AWS Elemental Appliances & Software Getting Started Guide. The email directs you to the AWS Console, where you can complete the process. Once quotes have been associated with an AWS account, you can’t link them to a different account. For more information on AWS accounts, see Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). 1. When you get an email from your account manager, click the View My Quotes link to go to the AWS Console. 2. Log into your AWS account. The first time you access this service, you see an explanation that your agreement with AWS Elemental, rather than Amazon Web Services, dictates the use of our ordering service. Select Continue to quotes and orders. 3. Once logged in, you see your quote or quotes. If you have one quote, you see the details page for that quote. If you have more than one quote, you see the Quotes and orders page. To select a quote, either click the View Quote button or click the quote name: 4. On the quote details page, review the information to ensure it reflects the desired products and prices. • If the information is accurate, click Confirm quote. • If you need to make changes, see Request Changes to a Quote in the AWS Console. 5. Once the quote is confirmed, you need to specify purchase order information. Select a purchase order option from the list. For My company purchase order is attached below, you must provide the purchase order number field and upload at least one attachment. 6. Verify the billing address details. If this is your first AWS Elemental puchase, the fields are blank and you need to complete them. When finished, click Next. 7. If your billing address is located outside the United States, you see a VAT/GST Identification Number field. Enter your entity Tax ID and click Next. Note: As a US-based vendor, AWS Elemental only assesses sales taxes to orders delivered within the United States. Customers receiving orders outside the United States continue to self-report applicable taxes. We collect VAT/GST information to verify the tax status of our international customers. 8. Specify your shipping information. Start by selecting the delivery type. Rev 4 AWS Elemental Confidential Page 5 © 2020 AWS Elemental. All rights reserved. a. If you select either Request shipping quote or Use my own carrier, you can either select from a list of previously used addresses or click Add new address. If you need to deliver to multiple addresses, select Add a delivery address. Each delivery address requires a contact name, phone number, and email. We provide this to the shipping carrier as part of the delivery instructions. If you have multiple delivery addresses, it is important to define which items go to which delivery locations. Include that information in the Additional shipping requests field under each address. b. If you select Request shipping quote, the AWS Elemental Operations team provides a shipping quote to the delivery contact and the person who originally requested the quote. If accepted, the shipping rate is added to the order after the quote has been confirmed in the Console. c. If you select Use my own carrier, use the Additional shipping requests text box below the address fields to enter carrier information. You can add attachments if necessary. 9. Fill out the delivery contact name, phone number, and email address. These fields are required even if no physical goods are being delivered so that AWS Elemental can make sure the appropriate parties have access to the information. Once complete, click Next. 10. Optional: Specify your customer AWS account. This enables users of that AWS account to view details of the licensable assets in their Activations list, download software and kickstart files, and access support (if included in the purchase). They can’t view the related order details. To add a customer AWS account, select Yes and enter the 12-digit AWS account ID and the contact email address. Once the order has been fulfilled, the email contact receives a confirmation email with instructions on how to find details of the purchased assets and download software and kickstart files. If you don’t want to add a customer AWS account for the order, select No. 11. Review and submit the order. If you need to make corrections, use the Edit button next to each section. a. To confirm the quote and place the order, select Submit order. b. Select Cancel to delete your changes and return to the quotes and orders page. AFTER QUOTE CONFIRMATION Once the quote has been submitted, you can check the status on the main quotes and orders page. • The quote’s status changes from Pending confirmation to Quote confirmed. • If more than one quote from the initial quote email synced to the AWS account, they are automatically updated to Expired status so that no future action can be taken on them. • A confirmation email is sent to the contact who received the initial quote email. Once the order has shipped, the Quote details page is updated with the tracking number for the shipment. Rev 4 AWS Elemental Confidential Page 7 © 2020 AWS Elemental. All rights reserved. REQUEST CHANGES TO A QUOTE 1. On the quote details page, select Request changes. 2. On the request changes page, select a change category. Enter details of the request in the Additional details box. If necessary, upload any supporting documents. Click Submit. On the quotes and orders page, the quote status changes from Pending Confirmation to Changes Requested. Other quotes are expired. The contact who received the initial quote email gets an email notification. Once processed, you receive an email saying that the quote has been updated and is ready to be confirmed. • Games Without Frontiers: Streaming Sports and the Evolution of Digital Intermediaries
Media Industries 5.2 (2018) Games without Frontiers: Streaming Sports and the Evolution of Digital Intermediaries Steven Secular1 UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA BARBARA steve.secular [AT] gmail.com Abstract As television has evolved into a global online medium, content owners from around the world increasingly rely on intermediary firms to program and manage their streaming platforms. Although such platforms feature the names of companies like HBO and ESPN, it has been the intermediaries that construct them, like BAMTech and NeuLion, that set the parameters of how audiences engage with streaming video. This article highlights the growth of intermediaries beginning in the 1990s, when media companies began to seek expert firms to help them put content online. Intermediaries, given their experience working in sports media, became experts in geolocation and audience analytics. As television has transitioned into an online medium, the leverage of the intermediary has grown with it, as reflected in Disney’s recent purchase of BAMTech. The study of intermediaries, therefore, illuminates the contributions of an obscured but immensely influential party in the process of global television distribution. Keywords: Intermediaries, Internet, Distribution, Streaming, Global A global media distribution center sits in an unassuming office park in Plainview, New York. NeuLion programs and oversees the streaming platforms for the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Football League (NFL), Univision, and China Central Television (CCTV), among other media companies from around the world. The streaming video enjoyed by a basketball fan in Brazil streaming the Houston Rockets–Oklahoma City Thunder game, a football fan catching replays on a train in France, or a RugbyPass subscriber in China, all emanate from that building on Long Island.
