Mass Times for Travel: masstimes.org Message from the desk of the Pastor

My dear people of God,

The month of June is a beautiful summer month. It is also a very important month in the life of the Church. We celebrate the Feast of and many important saints’ feast days in June. However, I would like to emphasize the important of the Feast of the Sacred Heart, which has been a very significant devotion in our church for some centuries. Devotion to the Saved Heart is devotion to Jesus Christ. The practice of the was established to honor the Sacred Heart. We were taught as children to honor the Sacred Heart. We also were taught the twelve promises of Jesus to St. Margaret Mary, one which says, “I will bless the home in which the image of my heart is honored.” Let us renew our dedication to Jesus during the month of June and let us celebrate the feast of the Sacred Heart in a special way. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in you.

My dear friends, Today our Scripture readings remind us that God has power over death. In the first reading, Elijah prays to God for the widow’s son, and God raises the boy from death. In the Gospel, Jesus has great compassion on the widow of Naim, and raises the young man from the dead. Again, Christ shows his power over death. We suffer as much today as people did during the time of Jesus’ earthy life. While the world around us has changed, human nature has not. We react to suffering and tragedy as people always have. Our only constant hope on this earth is Jesus Christ. In him and in him alone do we find meaning in life. Life is not only that which is defined in length of years or numbers of family and friends. It is not defined by this earth. Jesus tells us “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Let us cling to Our Savior. He permits us to suffer, but no one has suffered more than he did for each of us. God did not create us to suffer and be unhappy. In Christ we find our fulfillment on earth and our pledge of unending life. May God bless you and your loved ones. Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Joseph
