The Geneva Park District was created as a separate municipal governing and taxing agency for the purpose of providing parks, facilities and recreational programs for the citizens of Geneva through a referendum passed in 1953. At that time it consisted of four parks: Island, McKinley, Dryden and Wheeler. It has grown to more than 50.
