Thank you to the teachers, parents and others who have offered to help with these competitions – your support is much appreciated President’s Message 2016 To all our competitors, teachers, accompanists, adjudicators, writers, administrators, parents and audiences, a warm welcome. To our sponsors who have generously supported these competitions, and to the competitors and their families who have made donations, a special thank you. To the committee, please know that your dedication and hard work is appreciated and recognised by all the teachers and parents who encourage our young competitors. As always we are looking for committee members to join us and be involved in holding these annual competitions. This is a very rewarding experience and important for the continuation of these competition. We really need your help. This year the Senior Vocal Festival will take place at St Andrews on the Terrace on Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September 2016 with the esteemed NZ Bass, Martin Snell as adjudicator. The Dame Malvina Major Foundation are again the generous sponsor of the $4,000 Aria prize. The Aria Finals Concert will be on Sunday, September 18thh at 7.30pm. This is a marvellous opportunity to see our up and coming talent and is highly recommended. The National Young Performer of the Year Awards will be held in Palmerston North over the weekend of 14 – 16 October, 2016. Finally, the best of luck to all competitors in this our 73rd Festival. I hope you will find it hugely enjoyable and be encouraged to join us again next year. Marguerite Tait-Jamieson FREE ADMISSION for all competitors, their families and friends Programmes available from the Office $4.00 each 3 SOCIETY RULES: The rules of the Society were published in the syllabus for this Festival. A copy is available from the Office. PLEASE NOTE: All reports, certificates, medals and ribbons are to be collected from the Office after the announcement of results. ONLY Cups will be presented on stage. Any person wishing to donate a cup or trophy should first apply to the Tap/Modern Convenor . All cups and trophies donated become the property of HVPAC Society. Modern and Tap Dance Section Convenor: Helena Easter [email protected] ADJUDICATOR: Gemma Boswell, Auckland Gemma started dancing and competing at the young age of 4, training in Tap, Jazz, Contemporary and Ballet. Competing as a both a soloist and in troupes throughout New Zealand and Australia. She has completed all her NZAMD exams in Tap and Jazz and has been nominated three times for the NZAMD scholarship. Gemma was nominated to compete in PACANZ 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2009 Gemma completed a year certificate in Contemporary dance at the Hagley Dance Company in Christchurch where she was then lucky enough to gain a place at Unitec. She graduated in 2014, with a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts. Gemma has been teaching and choreographing for the past 10 years, focusing on solo, troupe work and theatre shows. In 2014 she did an internship with Auckland Music Theatre as a choreographer for the show Action TV News 8. Gemma has choreographed Life,Death and Everything In Between with Rebel Theatre Company and more recently The Addams Family with North Shore Music Theatre. Gemma recently won a NAPTA award for best choreography in a musical- The Addams Family . Since living in Auckland, Gemma has worked with choreographers such as Michael Parmenter, Katie Burton, Kimbrian Bergh, Kelly Nash and many more. She has recently worked for entertainment company Highly Flammable and Deluxe Models as a fire-dancer/dancer/model at events including V8's, Fuji Xerox 50th anniversary, Fire and Ice Show, Taupo Arts Festival and 2015 Highlife on Waiheke. Gemma currently freelances as a dancer, choreographer and teacher at various schools in Auckland including Storm, SMB and TAPAC.
