Brizuela joined the team as an advance scouting intern in 2009 after graduating from Webber International University with a business management degree, and he quickly moved up Milwaukee's front office ranks. He helped the team re-establish a presence in the Dominican Republic, running a new complex there from '10-12 before moving up to director of Latin America operations and scouting. He will work out of the Brewers' year-round complex in Phoenix, where former farm director Reid Nichols was based. The Brewers' new farm director, Tom Flanagan, works out of the offices at Miller Park. In his new role, Brizuela will have more contact with the Brewers' Minor League coaching staffs, most of which are returning intact for 2016: • The entire coaching staff at Triple-A Colorado Springs is back for a second straight season. The group consists of manager Rick Sweet, pitching coach Fred Dabney and coach Bob Skube. • The Double-A Biloxi Shuckers, who advanced to the Southern League Championship Series in their first year of play, will have a new manager with Carlos Subero's promotion to the Major League staff. Guerrero, who managed 18 seasons in the Minor Leagues before serving two years as Craig Counsell's first-base coach in Milwaukee, will head a staff that includes pitching coach Chris Hook and coach Sandy Guerrero, Mike's older brother. • Joe Ayrault returns for his fifth season as manager of the Class-A Brevard County Manatees with pitching coach David Chavarria and coach Ned Yost IV. New to the staff is another "coach," Edwin Maysonet, who joins the coaching ranks after a 12-year professional playing career that included stints in the Cubs, Astros and Brewers systems. He reached the Majors in 2008 and '09 with the Astros, and he played 30 games for the Brewers in '12. • At Class A Wisconsin, another former Brewer, Matt Erickson, is back as manager for a sixth season. He will oversee pitching coach Gary Lucas, coach Chuckie Caufield and a new addition, Al LeBoeuf, who is moving up from Rookie-level Arizona. LeBoeuf's specialty is hitting instruction. • Rookie-level Helena will have an entirely new staff, led by manager Nestor Corredor, who was promoted from rookie Arizona. Brewers assistant pitching coordinator Mark Dewey will double as Helena's pitching coach, while Liu Rodriguez and Reggie Williams instruct the position players. • There's more double duty at Rookie-level Arizona, where Brewers assistant director of player development Tony Diggs will also manage the Brewers' Arizona League entry and serve as the organization's roving outfield coordinator. Diggs had previously managed the Arizona club from 2008-12, winning a league title in '10. Rolando Valles and Steve Cline will be co-pitching coaches, and former infielder Hainley Statia will serve as coach. Statia just recently retired as a player. • Victor Estevez received a promotion from coach to manager of the Dominican Summer League Brewers in 2016. He is flanked by pitching coach Geraldo Obispo and returning coaches Luis de los Santos and Joan Abreu. Jose Pena will move from manager to coach. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/365140541.html Mike Guerrero will manage at Class AA Biloxi By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel January 13, 2016 Mike Guerrero, who was not retained as the Brewers' first base coach after the 2015 season, will remain in the organization as manager at Class AA Biloxi. He will work there with brother Sandy Guerrero, the Shuckers' hitting coach. The Brewers announced their minor-league staff assignments Wednesday, and in essence Guerrero changed positions with Carlos Subero, who was promoted from manager at Biloxi to first base coach in Milwaukee. Beyond the managerial and coaching assignments, the Brewers announced several changes to the the player development department under new farm director Tom Flanagan. Eduardo Brizuela was promoted to assistant farm director after serving three years as director of Latin America scouting and operations. Brizuela will be based at the Brewers' training complex in Phoenix and head the staff there. In addition to his duties as assistant to the director of player development, Tony Diggs will be the roving outfield coordinator in the minors. Diggs also is moving from manager at rookie Helena to the rookie Arizona club. The Kansas City Royals would be happy to vouch for that. On the flip side, it can be challenging to sell tickets after your team experiences a disastrous season that prompts a massive rebuilding plan to be put in place. That's the situation the Milwaukee Brewers find themselves in this winter. Despite that difficult position, the Brewers have been relatively pleased that season-ticket sales for 2016 have dropped only marginally at this point, a nod to their loyal fan base. "Obviously, after a very disappointing 2015 season, we budgeted for a decline in season tickets and a lower renewal rate," said Brewers chief operation officer Rick Schlesinger. "It has been better than what we originally forecast. Right now, we're about 7% behind last year's pace, which isn't bad. "With other teams in similar situations, you're looking at double-digit declines. So, we're satisfied that it's only a marginal decline. We've got a lot of selling season left." The Brewers have sold only full season-ticket plans and partial plans, so that is their only measurement against previous years. Group sales will heat up soon and individual ticket sales begin in February. Putting it mildly, the 2015 season was discouraging for Brewers fans. A 5-17 record in April led to the dismissal of manager Ron Roenicke, who was replaced by Craig Counsell. A sell-off of veteran players began in July, and general manager Doug Melvin stepped aside later in favor of 30-year-old David Stearns, previously an assistant in Houston. The Brewers' 68-94 record was likely the beginning of at least a few lean years to come before a newly rejuvenated farm system produces winning players at the major-league level. And teams never know for sure how fans will respond to long rebuilding plans. Attendance at Miller Park dropped to just over 2.5 million last season as ticket sales dried up after the miserable start. That's a commendable figure for the smallest market in the majors, but it represented a drop of some 500,000 from the record attendance of 3.07 million in 2011, when the Brewers won their only National League Central crown. How much lower home attendance will go in 2016 remains to be seen. The Brewers are more reliant on ticket income than teams in larger media markets, but Schlesinger said early signs are not nearly as grim as might be expected under the circumstances. "Given the season we had, the fact we're only seeing a 7% decline at this point is heartening," he said. "We'll be behind last year in total tickets sold on opening day, but I think we have a chance to make up some ground." The Brewers do not announce their season-ticket base from year to year, but it was believed to have been between 13,000 and 15,000 in 2015.
