Joe Scully, ProRodeo MC is an award winning Emcee and Live-Event Sound Artisan from Erin, Ontario, Canada.

Joe Scully, ProRodeo MC was born September 7th, 1978 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. As a child, he was quiet, and when transplanted out to the “’Schticks”, he quickly adapted to the Country lifestyle. His Parents, John and Anne, would open the door in the morning, and he would spend the day amusing himself on the ranch, returning late in the day for dinner.

In middle school, his talents began to shine through as he started winning Class, School, Regional and County Speech competitions. In addition, he was the starring role in each of the major Theatrical projects, and by Grade 8, it was obvious that “in the limelight” was where he belonged.

Growing up in a Roping Family, he would rush home from School to practice the events of Tiedown Roping and . When he was 14, he won the Roping Association of Ontario Break-away Roping Year- end Championship, spring-boarding his confidence with the twine. But at the same time, like most early- teen cowboys, he “dabbled” in Junior Riding, and then jumped up to senior at the slight age of 15. His first attempt would become his last attempt, as the 1,800 lb Brahma Bull, #07 GST stomped the young and took away his World Championship Bull Rider dreams.

Soon thereafter, his performance abilities were put to the test when he started a career path as a Rodeo for A Bar K of then, Corunna, Ontario, Canada. Hauling a Donkey and some props, Scully was able to make strangers laugh, cheer, clap, and he quickly recognized that the Arena would be his home. Following a few more Roping Association of Ontario Championships, he began competing in the National High School Rodeo Association in neighbouring state Michigan, qualifying in both of his events for the State Finals, and ultimately going to the Nationals in Team Roping.

With College looming, his post-secondary paths would have to be set. He selected a field similar to his favourite job of Rodeo Clown...Radio Broadcasting. During this time, he went to School during the week, and clowned for every Bull Riding Organization on the weekends in the Province of Ontario. He can be acclaimed as being the Rodeo Clown at the inception of the aforementioned A Bar K Rodeos, the short lived Chute ‘N Stars Bull Riding Company, the famed Two-Tough Bull Company and its spin-off Extreme Productions Bull Riding Company.

The radio world showed promise as between 2nd and 3rd years, he became an on-air announcer for 1460 CJOY in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, though he held tight to his newest rodeo employer, Big L Rodeo, and began dj’ing in nightclubs, and at stags and does.

After graduating, he moved into the lucrative world of Radio and Media sales, selling for The Zone @ 92.9 in Cambridge, Ontario, and then Z103.5 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Once settled in the largest city in the Country, the upbeat and ever-changing media landscape would not allow enough time to devote to prepara- tions for weekend rodeos while selling almost $1,000,000.00 a year in advertising. Of course, the all mighty dollar won, and Scully retired from the Rodeo Arena as a clown, but continued to compete in the Roping Events on most weekends.

Eventually his hiatus from Greasepaint, bombs, clown cars and barrels came to a screeching halt when BJ Prince of Rawhide Rodeo Canada contacted him to clown a rodeo last minute in Tiverton, ON. The break was unnoticeable as Joey the Clown was even faster on his feet than ever. Prince offered him the entire following season, but Scully declined. “I don’t want to clown anymore. However, I would like to try announcing some day.”

The next year, a last minute phone call, and Scully was clowning again. The same offer arose, and Scully again declined, with the same statement.

The next transition in his Full-Time employment took him to Country 95.3 FM in Toronto/Hamilton. It seemed a logical fit: a hip, successful Major Market sales rep who competes in Rodeo selling Country Music in the Big City. And that’s when it happened. Rawhide Rodeo Canada called again, but this time with a different offer, “An entire season. Announcing.” Scully jumped at the opportunity.

The first season went extremely well, and the provincial organization, the Ontario Rodeo Association selected him to announce their Finals. The provincial high school organization, the Ontario High School Rodeo Association also selected him for their finals that same year.

Since that inaugural year, Scully has carved a niche for himself. Utilizing all of his college skills, he edits his own music, provides the music for his events, patches into soundsystems or sets up his own, and commen- tates. His Nightclub background and trained ear for “good beats” stemming from his time at the Top-40 / Urban radio station and Country Station offers an eclectic mix of cutting edge music. The sound of a “Sculli- fied” rodeo has intro songs, ride songs, on-the-fly sound effects and relative music. His commentary is based on the philosophy of “Quality over Quantity”; he preps for hours on his own custom-database, so that he has an abundance of statistical information on the Rodeo Contestants and Animal Athletes. And best of all... music... sfx... stats... buck-off percentages... Simultaneously.

The Industry-leader in Eastern Canada, Scully has been selected to 5 Ontario High School Rodeo Association Finals’, 4 Ontario Rodeo Association’s OFR’s, 4 Extreme Tour Rodeo Finals’, and it doesn’t stop there. He has co-announced at PBR Canada Rocky Cup Series Events Presented Dickies, and even co-announced Bi-lingual Rodeos in both French and English.

International recognition of this talent came to fruition in 2007 upon his winning of the title of International Finals Rodeo 37 Contract Act Showcase Announcer Champion. From there, Scully began touring all across the Eastern part of the Continent.

In 2008, the ProRodeo MC achieved the highest accreditation of Rodeo Announcing when he earned his Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Announcer Card, becoming one of only two Canadians and one of only 120 in the World with that status.

That same year, he was signed to Feld Entertainment’s Monster Jam Monster Truck Series, and announced in front of crowds exceeding 25,000 spectators per performance.

At the conclusion of the 2009 season, his announcing career event roster has taken him to 11 United States and 4 Canadian Provinces.

Joe Scully currently makes his home in Erin, Ontario, Canada, the “hub” of Rodeo Activity in Eastern Canada. Joe Scully, ProRodeo MC email: [email protected] cell: 416-931-2502 res: 519-315-0222
