Ode To Sholay: Cinnamon Soho Celebrates Iconic Bollywood Blockbuster’s 40th Anniversary
From the bright lights of Bollywood to the bustling heart of central London, award-winning restaurant Cinnamon Soho is celebrating the 40th anniversary of one of India’s most iconic films – Sholay – with a specially crafted menu to honour the blockbuster classic.
First released in 1975, Sholay is still the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Dubbed ‘The Godfather’ of Indian cinema, it was the first CinemaScope movie that changed Bollywood forever. The action-adventure film follows two former petty thieves – Jai and Veeru – recruited by a retired police officer to capture a ruthless bandit for a handsome reward. Gabbar Singh, played by Amjad Khan, is still the most popular villain in the history of Hindi cinema and his powerful portrayal and piercing looks are etched in cinematic history.
Executive Chef Vivek Singh’s modern-Indian restaurant has been inspired by the characters, colours and flavours of this record-breaking box office-smash. Guests can take their pick of any number of dishes from the limited-edition menu, which runs Monday to Saturday from 11am until 11pm throughout August.
Basanti’s Choley Baturey (£7) Street food-style chickpea curry with puffed bread and red onion kachumbari
Gabbar Burger (£8.50) Spiced lamb and chilli burger with masala fries
Jai’s Got Balls, Have You? (£10) Ten-piece selection of spiced-balls including lamb Shami kebab, Bangla scotch eggs and South Indian-spiced curry crab cakes
A refreshing herbal and spiced Indian G&T will also be served, whilst Ab Goli Kha (chocolate and cardamom bullets), will end the meal with a sweet treat from the East.
Located just off the cobbles of Carnaby Street on Kingly Street, Cinnamon Soho offers high-quality comfort food classics, sharing plates and spice-infused cocktails, pleasing both diners and drinkers alike.
