—6— Scenes from the Vintage Picnic

Richard Garcia, Class of 1956, is pictured here standing next to the Vintage Alumni Group sign displayed at their picnic this year in Colusa. Every year, on the Saturday after Mother’s Day, the Vintage Alumni meet for a picnic in the park to celebrate the next class reaching their 50 year reunion. This year was the Class of 1962.

For the last 10 years, the ladies pictured to the left, have been a great assistance to the Colusa High School Alumni Association. Each year when it is time to send out our newsletter, these alumni of Colusa High put in a great deal of donated time and effort organizing and working on our mailing efforts. They always keep our mailing group entertained with great memories and fun stories of their days at Colusa High School. We took this picture of them enjoying their annual Vintage Alumni Picnic in Colusa during the month of May. Pictured left to right starting in the back row are Janet Allen Staple 1947, Bobby Jo Allen Seaver 1951, Donna Woods Stokes 1960 and Bonnie Brown Emery 1952. In the front row left to right are Janita Allen Smith 1952 and Joyce Allen Godon 1949. We really appreciate their support and enjoy their enthusiasm for our school. Alum “Woodie W. Third Annual Colusa High School Bike Ride On May 5th, 2012, Colusa High School hosted the third annual 3F Century bike ride. Why 3F? In cycling there has been a move toward more climbing, the more difficult the better. It was felt that there are many riders out there who would like a flat- ter course. We offered a course that was Flat, Fast, and Fun. Riders had the choice of riding 100 miles, 63 miles, 37 miles or 22 miles. We had 68 riders and a great time was had by all. In addition to the ride, Larry Yeghoian, CUSD Superintendent and Terry Bressler, School Board member and 1972 Colusa grad., provided a tasty post-ride lunch of pork loin, Terry’s special rice, salad and bread. The date for next year’s event is May 4, 2013. You can find out more about the ride by visiting www.3Fcentury.com. All proceeds will go to benefit youth activities in the Colusa Unified School District. As always, donations to the event are appreciated. We hope to see you out on the road. —7— MORE MEMORIES MORE MEMORIES MORE MEMORIES

Dear Alumni: “From CUSD Superintendent’s Desk” At the end of this year I will retire after 11 years as Superintendent of Colusa Unified. I am happy to share that these years have been among the best years of my 39 years in education. I have learned what many of you have shared through your memories of Colusa. Colusa is a wonderful community to grow up in and community support of its youth and schools is as good as I have seen during my career. I watched the CHS Alumni Association grow from an idea to an outstanding group of supporters. Your donations continue to make a huge difference during our current economic crisis. Because of your generosity, current CHS students continue to enjoy activ- ities that students before them enjoyed. The values of family, community commitment and parent involvement are still very much alive in Colusa. Your memories continue to remind us of the importance of the high school years and the impact CHS has made in the lives of so many. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of CHS, but more importantly for the won- derful traditions you began or continued as Colusa High School students! With sincere thanks and appreciation, Larry Yeghoian, District Superintendent Donor Wall and Sidewalk Pavers A significant focal point to our stadium is the Donor Wall and the sidewalk pavers. Through the generosity of Class of 1977 graduate Ben King, we were able to add the “You Inspired Me” portion of the Donor Wall this year. This is a great way to show your support for CHS or pay tribute to someone who has made a difference in your life. For more information, please go to www.colusa.k12.ca.us and go to CHS homepage and click on Alumni section.

CHS Landscape Project Through the dedication and leadership of Class of 1988 graduate Lisa (Steidlmayer) Bailey, the CHS campus received a wonderful landscape makeover this year. Lisa planned and organized a community effort to raise money and secure volunteers to renovate a sig- nificant portion of the campus with new plants and ground cover. A special thank you to the following businesses for their monetary donations: Colusa Rotary Club, Sycamore Family Trust, Gardener’s Compost, River Vista Farms and Colusa Industrial Properties. CHS students, staff, parents and community are extremely appreciative of this tremendous achievement!
