BLUE JACKETS NOTES GONE STREAKING The Jackets have outscored their opponents 15-6 (including SO goals) during a six-game win streak and have allowed one goal or less in four of those six matchups with two shutouts. It’s the longest active win streak in the NHL. The six-game win streak is tied for the fifth longest win streak in club history (Mar. 24-Apr. 3, 2006) and longest since recording the second longest win streak in NHL history with a 16-game win streak from Nov. 29, 2016-Jan. 3, 2017. The Jackets have also posted a nine-game (Mar. 18-Apr. 4, 2015), eight-game (Jan. 6-23, 2014) and seven-game (Dec. 1-16, 2014) win streaks in franchise history.

CBJ’S START The Blue Jackets have opened the 2017-18 season having won 15 of their first 23 contests (15-7-1) with Columbus averaging 3.53 goals per game and 1.47 goals against in their 15 victories (including SO goals) and has allowed two goals or less in 12 of those contests, including the last six-straight wins. The 15 wins in the opening 23 games are the most in a season in club history and the 31 points are the second most (32, 2016-17)

DRAWING FIRST BLOOD Columbus had scored the first goal in six-straight games and eight of nine contests prior to allowing the first goal in Friday’s game vs. Ottawa. The Jackets are 10-3-1 when scoring the first goal this season and are fifth-T in the NHL in wins when scoring first. Dating back to last season, Columbus’ 45 wins (45-13-6) when scoring first are the second-most in the NHL, trailing Washington’s 54.

AGAINST THE ATLANTIC The Jackets are riding a eight-game point streak against Atlantic Division teams (7-0-1) after dropping their opening contest 2-0 on Oct. 19 vs. Tampa Bay. They have found success against the division, going 15-4-2 in the past 21 games since Jan. 22, 2017. Four of the Jackets’ current six-game win streak have been against Atlantic teams. Following Monday’s game at Montreal, Columbus won’t face an Atlantic team until Dec. 18 at Boston (nine-straight vs. other divisions).

SUCCESS AGAINST CANADIENS The Jackets have found team and individual success against the Canadiens of late. The club is 5-0-1 vs. Montreal since Jan. 25, 2016, outscoring the Canadiens 24-7 over that span. Individually, numerous players have been productive. Cam Atkinson has 6-3-9 in the last six games vs. Montreal, Sergei Bobrovsky owns a 3-0-1 with a .976 save percentage and 0.74 goals-against average in his past four contests, Nick Foligno has 2-4-6 in his past five games and 4-6-10 in the last 12 overall, Joonas Korpisalo has won both contests (2-0- 0, 2.00 GAA, .938 SV%) and Alexander Wennberg has 0-7-7 in his past five games.

EXTRA EFFORT The Blue Jackets have posted league highs in both wins and points gained after regulation this season, going 7-0-1 (15 points) in their first eight overtime/shootout games. Columbus leads the league in road wins (4-0-1) and the three wins at home (3-0-0) are tied for second. Six of the Jackets’ last 14 games have been decided in overtime/shootout with the club going 5-0-1.

PENALTIES AND KILLING The Jackets rank second in the NHL in penalty minutes a game (6.3). The club has been whistled for three penalties or less in seven- straight games. When they have taken penalties, the Blue Jackets have been successful late, killing off all the opponents’ power plays in the last eight-straight games (17 penalties) since allowing three third period power play goals at the New York Rangers on Nov. 6. The team ranks fourth-T in the NHL in penalty kill percentage at 84.5 pct. (49-of-58) and are tied for first at home at 93.8 pct. (Buffalo, Minnesota) having killed off all penalties in 11 of 12 home games.

SHOOTING GALLERY The Blue Jackets enter tonight’s matchup with the Senators having outshot their opponent in 15 of the first 23 games this season. Columbus currently sits fourth-T in the NHL with 34.8 shots per game and has recorded 30 or more shots in 18-of-23 contests. The club recorded 30 or more shots in 11-straight games from Oct. 13-Nov. 4, prior to posting 25 shots on goal on Nov. 6 at the NY Rangers.

TORTS ONE AWAY Thanks to an active six-game win streak, head coach John Tortorella is one win shy from becoming the third coach in Blue Jackets history to record 100 wins in his coaching career (99-64-17). Tortorella, who has an American-born record 545 career NHL victories, would join Todd Richards (127) and Ken Hitchcock (125) in the 100-win club

BOB’S IN NET Sergei Bobrovsky has allowed six goals during an active six-game win streak, posting a 0.98 goals-against average and .966 save percentage. The netminder ranks first among netminders in goals-against average (1.91, save percentage (.936) and shutouts (3, tied) and ranks second in wins (14). He has allowed two goals or less in 11 of his 14 victories (78.6 pct).

JACKETS YOUNG D The Blue Jacket defense averages 24 years and 10 months old with five of the seven defensemen under the age of 25. The club is led in scoring by its three youngest blueliners. Zach Werenski (20 YO) and Seth Jones (23 YO) are tied for the team-lead in scoring among defensemen with 12 points each. Werenski, who played in his 100th career NHL game on Nov. 22 vs. Calgary, has 3-3-6 in the past 12 contests. Markus Nutivaara (23 YO), who ranks third, has picked up the offensive slack lately from the backend, posting 1-2-3 in the last four games and 1-7-8 in the past 12 contests.
