Media Kit “Nashville Backstage” premieres on RFD-TV in 2015 and introduces each week a two- fold show featuring a live musical performance and an exclusive behind the scenes interview, highlighting up-close and personal discussions with producers, recording artists, and renowned and up‘n coming stars in the entertainment and music industries. “I’m celebrating over 50 years of being in love...with country music,” says host Kenny Dean. “My older brother was a truck driver and still is, so I remember fi rst listening to an AM radio show called ‘The Charlie Douglas Road Gang’, and now 50 years later I’m able to sit down with seasoned artists, songwriters, producers, as well as these young up’n coming stars. Remember when you were a kid going into the candy store? Well I’m that kid now in the candy store of the ‘Country Music Community’. God has blessed me and I thank him every day.” Kenny’s interview style is compared by some to that of the late night talk show host. He is a husband, father and grandfather whose good ole boy persona and wholesome honesty is as welcoming at fi rst introduction as it is show after show. In addition to being a TV personality on various stations across the nation, Kenny’s 20-year broadcast career has allowed him to host a morning show (The Front Porch) as well as an afternoon show (Behind the Scene with Kenny and Friends.) Named the “TV Personality Of The Year” in 2006 by North American Country Music Association International (NACMAI), Kenny has covered political and entertainment sectors—conducting interviews with governors, congressmen, senators and state offi cials, along with the all-time music and entertainment greats.

Volume 51 GENE WATSON FAN CLUB April, May, June 2017 NEWSLETTER Dear Friends, I know being busy is good but I feel like I’ve been busier than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rock- ing chairs. I just finished up my part of recording the new Gospel CD and now the rest of the work for the CD cover, etc has to be done. I really enjoyed recording these special songs because it brought back memories of singing in church with my fami- ly. My Mom and Dad led the singing at our church and often my brother, Eddie, and me would sing a duet. I also sang a lot with my sister, Virginia (Gina) and my sister, Mary Lois. I hope you’ll love these songs as much as I do and I can’t wait for you to hear it. I’ll let you know just as soon as we know a release date. We’d love to see you at one of our shows so have a look in this newsletter at all the tour dates and maybe you can come see us soon. You can always find out more about a show on our website also. Take care and see you on the road! Country Music Video Country Music Video in Country’s Year of the Woman by Julie L. Andsager and Kimberly Roe Because of the success of its new female stars, the country music industry declared 1997 its Year of the Woman. We examined how country video portrays female artists and characters. Research on other genres suggests that women are symboli- cally annihilated in music video. By analyzing 285 CMT videos, we found that most female artists’ videos portrayed women progressively, whereas male artists portrayed them stereotypically. The ratio of male to female artists’ videos was 3 to 1. Although the data suggest country video is similar to pop or rock video of the mid- 1980s, the country videos were qualitatively different in their portrayal of gender roles. In the past few years, all major genres of music have seen the emergence of female megastars, those capable of turning an album release multiplatinum. This phenomenon has been particularly noticeable in country music, a genre that gen- erally has been driven by the star power of its male performers. Artists such as Wynonna and Mary Chapin Carpenter saw tremendous success in the early to mid-1990s, earning platinum albums and headlining concerts. They were just the first wave in a new storm that hit with the release of The Woman in Me, Shania Twain’s 1996 album that became the all-time top-selling female country album, surpassing even Patsy Cline albums (CMA Marketing, 1998). At the same time, LeAnn Rimes’s hit single, Blue, launched her into the ranks of megastardom. The phenomenal success of these women has undoubtedly been a factor in expanding the boundaries of country music, making it the top radio format in the United States (CMA Marketing, 1998).

1 Jeroen Buts Master Engels The Thematical and Stylistic Evolution of Heavy Metal Lyrics and Imagery From the 70s to Present Day Master scriptie Faculteit Letteren en Wijsbegeerte Promotor: Prof. Dr. Gert Buelens 2 Prologue You cannot make me feel guilty/ I don't give a shit about respect I won't join your moral masturbation/ I'm the prodigal son gone off the tracks You cannot make me feel sorry/ I don't give a damn about your pride I'm the cat-piss on your carpet/ The last crushing thought before you die Don't fit in your picture Don't fit in your world Don't match all the lies you feed your kids Feel no loyalty/ This deal was made without me Sure I never signed it/ Your contracts don't apply to me I'll fuck your dog/ Do you still wanna get along with me? I'd rape your daughter/ On payment of a small fee I'll fuck your dog/ Do you still wanna get along with me? I'd rape your daughter/ How much would you pay? (“Dead Serious and Highly Professional”, The Ocean) If someone were to tell you, dear reader, that heavy metal is just a louder, faster and more formulaic version of that popular musical genre which defined the late 70s, called hard rock, that someone would probably be wrong. The above lyric contains several elements which indicate just how incomplete such a statement would be. Most importantly, it divides those who read it almost instantly: a metal fan, even if his taste is for a different subgenre of metal, will recognize a specific quality in this text.
