This Year's Rainbow Trails Publication Is Dedicated to This year’s Rainbow Trails publication is dedicated to .. Gail O’Connor Mark Mancha Loretta Guinan Julie Buckman Boulder Las Vegas Mt. Rose Daylite Assembly #8 Assembly #9 Assembly #13 Assembly #22 Our Nevada Rainbow would like to thank these Grand Deputies for their service to our girls over a cumulative three decades of time. Mrs. Gail O’Connor has served as Grand Deputy of Boulder Assembly #8 since 2007. Mr. Mark Mancha served as Grand Deputy of Daylite Assembly #22 for two years beginning in 2004; he then served Las Vegas Assembly #9 beginning in 2011. Mrs. Loretta Guinan as served as Grand Deputy of Mt. Rose Assembly #13 since 2003. Mrs. Julie Buckman has served as Grand Deputy of Daylite Assembly since 2006. With the obvious exception of Mr. Mancha, each has served her assembly as Mother Advisor and in various other capacities before being appointed Grand Deputy. Mr. Mancha also served as Director of Membership-South and as our State Rainbow Dad in 2010-11. Each has continued to provide guidance to our girls and adults, dedicating countless hours of time, and given selflessly. Each has helped mold the character of many girls, both in their own assemblies and throughout Nevada. Each has traveled across our vast desert many, many times with a car full of girls to the next Official Visit, Rainbow Camp or Grand Assembly. Each has shared their individual talents with us – and for all of this, Nevada Rainbow says – THANK YOU! Enjoy your retirement – visit often – remain part of our family. Rainbow Trails 2014 Official Publication of the Grand Assembly of Nevada International Order of the Rainbow for Girls “Down the Rabbit Hole” Annie Downing and Megan Sakelarios Grand Editors Mrs. Bonnie Bunch Director of Publications 2014 Grand Oficers This Publication acknowledges allegiance to the Supreme Assembly, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, whose seat of authority is in McAlester, Oklahoma, USA, of which Rev. W. Mark Sexson was the founder, of which Mrs. Mary Adeline Bradford is the Supreme Worthy Advisor, and to the Grand Jurisdiction of Nevada of which Mrs. Joanie Jacka is Supreme Hope and Supreme Inspector and Jessica Wright is the Grand Worthy Advisor. 2 3 2014 Grand Worthy Advisor A Message from Jessica... Lewis Carroll was noted for his aptitude at word play, logic, fantasy, and literary nonsense. He was a very awkward man with a lot of health issues, yet he was still a very charismatic man. His flaws never stopped him from making a lasting impact on the entire world, because he used his strengths and his weaknesses to his advantage. The past few years I have kept a few virtues very close to my heart, and I am not afraid to advocate them to others. I strongly believe that everybody needs to do whatever makes them happy. Life is too short to be living it dissatisfied. Often times people have a notion that they are incapable of getting to where they will be the happiest. Only you can be the change you wish to see in yourself. Just like Mr. Carroll, you have to learn how to use your strengths and your weaknesses to your advantage. This year has been a crazy, and yet fantastic journey as we traveled to Wonderland. That journey would not have been near what it was without every person in Nevada Rainbow. Between the adults and the girls, you each have made a lasting impact on me, and I thank you for it. Without your support, whether you knew you were giving it or not, this year would not have been as enjoyable as it was. It has been such an honor to serve you as your Grand Worthy Advisor this year, and I hope you take all the memories and friendships that have been created throughout the year, and carry them with you for the years to come, just like I will. Rainbow teaches us to be better people by giving our lives to Service, and thus leaving our mark on others’ lives, giving them joy. Being a Rainbow Girl has taught me a lot, but most of all it taught me how to recognize what makes me happy. One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others. -Lewis Carroll Welcome to Wonderland! Jessica Wright Grand Worthy Advisor 2013-2014 Jessica Wright 4 5 Supreme Worthy Advisor Supreme Hope And Supreme Inspector Mrs. Mary Adeline Bradford Joanie Jacka WELCOME to our “Down the Rabbit Hole” Grand Assembly Sessions. They all feel it, the descent interrupted, and the engines if they‘re still working can‘t be heard over the whirr of the air circulation and the whine and hiss of pressure in their ears. Jody Lamb, sitting between her young children in the middle of three seats, gasps as the plane tilts sharply to the right. She can see past her son to the dipped wing, pointing like an accusing finger at the scrubland and glinting blue sea of the bay. A speedboat cuts a white trail across the water. Jody wonders if it will be called back to search for survivors among the wreckage. She smiles down at Dylan but he is absorbed in the view from the window: the solid earth so close, but probably not survivably so. The wing judders and flexes like a plastic ruler about to snap.

  • Passion of Poetry St
Passion of Poetry St. Patrick School Cobalt 2009 - 2010 Passion Of Poetry St. Patrick School 2009-2010 Edited by: Chris Collins 1 Ten years of poetry. Ten years of St. Patrick School students pouring their hearts into verses of ponder and wonder. It seems that it was just yesterday that we held our very first poetry meeting. One decade later, our group is as strong and prolific as ever; I commend each and every one of you. You never cease to amaze me in your candour, as well as your convictions. One may ask why I would put so much time and energy into something as simple and “Insignificant” as poetry? I would have to respond that aside from it being an exceptionally good therapeutic tool for these students, it is also a growing process or path that they undertake. In writing, they learn how to reach into themselves and explore their emotions and reactions, challenge their imaginations, and strengthen their beliefs. Poetry is not simply part of the literature curriculum; it is a way of focusing on life, an object or an emotion in a more in-depth, precise and intimate way than any other writing form. Most thoughts race through your mind leaving you wondering if it was ever really there. A good poem will take up lodging and offer a lifetime of reminisces. I would like to thank my students this year for allowing me the privilege of working with them and sharing their poetry. For them it was a journey of self-evaluation and growth. For myself, a greater understanding and compassion for them and their beliefs was the most treasured return in working with these remarkable students.
