July 5, 2017 Capturing Japan's oldest fireworks festival that started during the Edo period, watched by approximately 900,000 people Tokyo Sumida River Fireworks Festival - Held on Saturday, July 29 Tobu Railway Co., Ltd. From July to August, many fireworks festivals will be held near the Tobu Railway lines, spanning across Tokyo and four surrounding prefectures. Among them is the Sumida River Fireworks Festival. Held this year on Saturday, July 29, the Sumida River Fireworks Festival is Japan's oldest fireworks festival. It began when the first fireworks were launched in the year 1733, and has continued at the Sumida River area of Tokyo since the Edo period. Asakusa and TOKYO SKYTREE, the world's tallest tower, are located nearby. This fireworks festival representative of Japan is watched by more than 900,000 people each year, with a total of approximately 22,000 fireworks launched from the first site near Sumida Park (between Sakurabashi and Kototoibashi) and the second site close to Kuramae Station (between Komagatabashi and Umayabashi). Many food stalls are set up near the site, offering visitors various types of gourmet meals such as yakisoba, takoyaki, and yakitori. Purchase a plastic sheet to sit on the ground at a nearby convenience store and enjoy the fireworks while sitting in a nice location and enjoying the street food. Also, TOKYO Solamachi, a commercial facility located at the foot of TOKYO SKYTREE, will be holding a summer festival from Tuesday August 1 to Thursday August 3, allowing visitors to experience the Japanese cultural tradition of Bon Odori. Tokyo Skytree
Tokyo Skytree The Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) is a new television broadcasting tower and landmark of Tokyo. It is the centerpiece of the Tokyo Skytree Town in the Sumida City Ward, not far away from Asakusa. With a height of 634 meters (634 can be read as "Musashi", a historic name of the Tokyo Region), it is the tallest building in Japan and the second tallest structure in the world at the time of its completion. A large shopping complex with aquarium is located at its base. Tokyo Skytree Town The highlight of the Tokyo Skytree is its two observation decks which offer spectacular views out over Tokyo. The two enclosed decks are located at heights of 350 and 450 meters respectively, making them the highest observation decks in Japan and some of the highest in the world. Tembo Deck, the lower of the two decks is 350 meters high and spans three levels with great views from all of its floors. The top floor features tall, broad windows that offer some of the best 360 degree panoramic views of the city. The middle floor has a souvenir shop and the Musashi Sky Restaurant, which serves French-Japanese fusion cuisine, while the lowest floor features a cafe and some glass panels on the ground from where you can look all the way down to the base of the tower. Tembo Deck observation deck A second set of elevators connects the Tembo Deck to the 450 meter high Tembo Gallery. Dubbed "the world's highest skywalk", the Tembo Gallery consists of a sloping spiral ramp that gains height as it circles the tower. -

Tobu Railway is pleased to announce that in the spring of 2020 we will open a complex integrated with commercial and accommodation facilities linking the two major tourist destinations of Asakusa and TOKYO SKYTREE TOWN. The complex will be situated under the elevated railway tracks between Asakusa Station and TOKYO SKYTREE Station on the Tobu Skytree Line. The facility will be located under elevated railway tracks operated by Tobu Railway in an area surrounded by Sumida Park and the Kitajukken River Water Terrace, which have undergone improvements by Sumida Ward and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Combined with the newly constructed footbridge spanning the Sumida River, the facility will provide visitors with an enjoyable experience as they walk between Asakusa and TOKYO SKYTREE TOWN. Embracing the “Live to Trip” concept expressing the desire for neighborhood residents to spend time as though they were traveling while having tourists from other parts of Japan and overseas stay in the area as if they lived there, the facility will attract dining, shopping and experience-based establishments that allow users to take in the charm of this new downtown while strolling through the area. In terms of accommodation facilities, a new hostel will be open and operated by Wise Owl, which has experience operating two other hostels in Tokyo. -
