“We are solidifying the Jeep brand’s foundation with the new Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee, while also expanding the brand to reach even more new customers with Jeep Compass,” said Joe Eberhardt, Executive Vice President – Global Sales, Marketing and Service, Group. “No other automotive manufacturer in the world has the range of sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) that Jeep offers and we are thrilled to display all of these vehicles for our Chinese customers.”

By 2008, the Jeep brand lineup in China will include Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander, Cherokee and Wrangler, plus the all-new Compass and the four-door Wrangler Unlimited.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

Since its introduction in 1992, the Jeep® Grand Cherokee has revolutionized the sport-utility (SUV) market. With best- in-class tractive capability and powerful engines, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is designed, engineered and built to master every imaginable day-to-day driving condition, whether on-road or off-road.

Jeep Grand Cherokee delivers a sporty and sophisticated driving experience with superior on-road ride and handling, class leading 4x4 capability and technological innovations in a well-appointed package.

The Quadra-Drive II 4x4 system, available on Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Commander, is the next great four- wheel-drive innovation from Jeep. Standard Electronic Stability Program with Electronic Roll Mitigation. Jeep- engineered steering and suspension systems provide great on-road manners.

Jeep Commander The Jeep Commander, which will be introduced in China in the first quarter of next year, expands the Jeep line-up into the premium 4 x 4 segment, offering consumers more capability, more flexibility, more safety and more premium amenities.

Commander is the first Jeep with seven-passenger seating offering three rows of seats that are in ‘theater-style’ for better visibility for all passengers. Commander’s all-new design was inspired by three legendary Jeep vehicles: the Station Wagons (1946 to 1962), the Jeep Wagoneer (1963 to 1991) and especially the (1984 to 2001).

Jeep Compass The Jeep brand is expanding into new territories with the all-new Jeep Compass, a modern-styled compact Jeep vehicle that delivers a competitive package of size, performance and fuel economy, ideally suited for built-up urban driving environments in China.

Compass, which provides another interpretation of the Jeep ‘Modern’ design theme, allows the Jeep brand to compete for the first time in the compact SUV segment and draws new customers to the brand. It combines the packaging and interior flexibility of an SUV with the performance, handling, fuel economy and price of a compact car or small pickup. Jeep Compass goes on sale in China in July next year.

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Building on the successful, original Jeep formula with an all-new frame, exterior and interior design, engines, and safety and convenience features, the new Unlimited delivers more capability, refinement, interior space, comfort, open-air fun, power, fuel efficiency and safety features. It goes on sale in China in 2008.

Featuring a one-of-a-kind, four-door open-air design, the all-new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited expands the Jeep experience to new dimensions. With room for five adult passengers — a Wrangler first — and the most cargo space ever offered in a Wrangler, the Wrangler Unlimited combines class-leading off-road capability with everyday practicality.

The all-new Wrangler Unlimited is rugged and simple, achieving best-in-class off-road capability while delivering a true open-air driving experience. With solid axles, removable doors, exposed hinges, a fold-down windscreen and innovative removable and tops, Wrangler retains the brand’s coveted core values of freedom, adventure, mastery and authenticity.

Jeep Brand Jeep, which is one of the most recognised brands in the world, is celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2006. In 1941, the Willys-Overland company delivered to the U.S. Army 1,500 light reconnaissance vehicles called the Willys Quad. Improved vehicles were called the MA and MB, but eventually, those vehicles came to be known as the Jeep. More than 368,000 were built for use during World War II.

Over the years, mastery, authenticity, freedom and adventure have become the hallmarks of the Jeep brand and the basis for its SUV leadership worldwide.

Sales of Jeep brand vehicles outside North America rose 15 per cent in 2005 to 84,019 units, with all three models — Wrangler, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee — posting gains over the prior year.
