PDKV bags Award

Dr. N. M. Kale accepting Jawaharlal Nehru Award at the hands of Shri. Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture

The Dr.Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, () has bagged one Jawaharlal Nehru Awards for PG Agricultural Research during the year 2009. Dr. Narayan Murlidhar Kale, Associate Professor, Department of Extension Education, Dr.PDKV, Akola received the award in Extension Education. The award carries a certificate, citation, a gold medal and a cash prize. To promote high quality doctoral thesis research in priority/frontier areas of agriculture and allied sciences. ICAR has instituted 17 Jawaharlal Nehru Award for P.G. Agricultural Research to be given away annually for the outstanding original research work in agriculture and allied sciences. All postgraduate students who have obtained their Ph.D. degree in in agriculture or allied sciences will be eligible to apply.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New has found Dr. Kale’s Ph.D. contribution worthy of the Jawaharlal Nehru Award-2009. The award was presented at New Delhi on July 16th 2010 by Sri. Sharad Pawar, Union Minister for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in presence of Prof. K.V. Thomas, Minister of state for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR, other dignitaries in the ICAR Award Cremony-2010 held at NASC Complex, New Delhi. In this Award Ceremony ICAR honoured 127 scientists, 5 institutions and 3 farmers for recognizing proficiency, sincerity and efficiency of researchers, extension workers and innovative farmers at national level.

This award is given to Dr. Kale for the quality doctoral (Ph. D.) thesis research in Extension Education in Social Sciences group. He did his Ph. D. under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Suresh Khonde, former Director (Extension Education) Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola. While completing his thesis work Vice Chancellor Dr.PDKV, Akola Dr. V.M.Mayande, also have given him technical guidance to complete his doctoral research work.

His thesis entitled was “Socio-economic, Psychological and Situational Causes of Suicides of Farmers in Region”. This research study was conducted in highly suicide concentrated six districts of Vidarbha namely Yavatmal, Washim, Buldana, Akola, and Wardha by conducting field survey with exploratory design of social research. In this research study researcher has given various implications according to the results of the study, will definitely useful to Central and State Government for improving the distress condition of the farmers.
