Barb Jungr & Simon Wallace Dancing in the Dark Press Release tel: 07848 741672 email: [email protected] Barb Jungr reunites with arranger and pianist Simon Wallace for their prescient take on a Bruce Springsteen classic. Artists: Barb Jungr featuring Simon Wallace Single: Dancing in the Dark (Released on Kristalyn Records on June 26th 2020) Listen here: https://soundcloud.com/barb-jungr/dancing-in-the-dark/s-HTa28kks47m Pre-order here: https://www.musicglue.com/barb-jungr/ The track: A few years ago Simon Wallace and I worked on the extraordinary Springsteen song, Dancing In The Dark. We never recorded it, and moved on with our lives, tacking in the gentle wind on the sea of music. Then came the global pandemic and lockdown and I thought of the song again. I called Simon and he agreed with me that it was one that got away so he recorded it and filmed himself and I recorded myself singing and filmed myself and then in lockdown fashion Simon mixed both and sourced some gorgeous Nihon Buyō which seemed to make sense of the whole song. We thought we would release it at last. For all of us in music and live performing arts, the news is grim. It made me think about how so many of us are waiting to see what might happen, and how we are all, wherever we are, Dancing In The Dark. Barb Jungr is widely regarded as one of the greatest living interpreters of song; her work defies easy categorisation. From her early days with the Three Courgettes on Island Records, to recording for CBS Records in her studio in a bacon factory, through performances and tours worldwide, to current songwriting partnerships with Level 42’s Mike Lindup, Simon Wallace and rising jazz star Jamie Safir alongside her work as a theatre lyricist, and body of acclaimed work as a writer, lyricist and composer for children’s theatre, Jungr’s varied artistic output continues to gain admirers. With a huge body of recorded work on Linn Records, Naim Label and Kristalyn Records, alongside contributions to many other recordings, she has also appeared as an arts critic on radio and television, and written extensively on songwriting and singing. “Electrifying….the top rank of jazz singers. A true musical alchemist, she is truly a marvel, who should not be missed” - The Telegraph www.barbjungr.co.uk Simon Wallace lives in London where he writes and produces music . Viruses permitting he performs with his wife jazz singer Sarah Moule and their band. He previously spent over 40 years working in many parts of the the world as a composer, pianist and musical director. From 1993 until her death in 2011 he wrote songs with American lyricist Fran Landesman and for over 30 years worked with the late Simon Brint composing music for some of Britain’s most popular TV shows including French & Saunders, Fry and Laurie and Absolutely Fabulous. His concert works include two symphonies commissioned by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra for Thai royal state occasions. He has worked extensively in theatre including 3 years with the Lindsay Kemp Company and has been musical director and arranger for some of Britain’s leading jazz singers. Credits for ‘Dancing In The Dark’ Written by: Bruce Springsteen Vocals: Barb Jungr Arrangement/Piano/Bass/Cello: Simon Wallace.

  • THE PETERITE Vol
THE PETERITE Vol. LXIV M A Y. 1973 No. 388 EDITORIAL There has been a strange theory about for some years that young people mature earlier than they used to. Nobody has properly explained what this means, but it has been used as an argument for lowering the voting age, for suggesting lowering the legal drinking age, and in such nebulous discussions as to whether children should be on the governing bodies of their schools. The Youth Service Development Council, reporting to the Government in 1969 on the need for a reconstitution of the Youth Service, duly include the theory of earlier maturity in their first paragraph; but very early in their long report they say that one important need is for advice to be given to young men in "knowing how to chat up the birds", which until now does not seem to have been a recorded problem since the days of the Garden of Eden, and might leave some of us even more puzzled about the meaning of earlier maturity. Few would dispute that young people have more money to spend than those of ten or fifteen years ago, and it could be that some have mistaken this for maturity. Certainly it has given endless opportunities to all kinds of suppliers, from barbers to boot-makers, to relieve young people of their money. The breathless pursuit of fashion and style is as bewildering as the fearful run of the Red Queen and Alice, who ran ivery fast for ten minutes only to remain in the same place; as the Queen txplained, "If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!" It is certainly difficult to keep up with the trends, and the mature young person now begins to stand out as the one who will set his own standards and quietly ignore the trends.
