THE MEDIA SCHOOL CAREER DAY NOV. 4, 2016 Margaret Aprison Manager Analytics Team, Golin Margaret Aprison is a Manager of Analytics at Golin, a globally recognized integrated communications agency. Margaret graduated with a degree in Telecommunications and a minor in Psychology from Indiana University. At Indiana, Margaret was an Associate Web Producer for NPR's "A Moment of Science". Margaret has also worked at a number of agencies in Chicago and Dallas including Y&R, VML, Ogilvy, and Zocalo Group and on a number of brands including FedEx, Gatorade, Johnson & Johnson, and Hyatt. Allison Berry Associate Branded Content Editor, Romper Allison Berry is currently the associate branded content editor for Romper, Bustle's website targeting millennial moms. Prior to joining the staff at Bustle, Allison was the assistant editor at Redbook magazine, and has previously held positions at Parents, Cosmopolitan, Ladies' Home Journal, and Bloom magazines. During her time at IU, she founded Ed at Indiana—the IU campus chapter of Ed2010, which was founded by fellow IU alum Chandra Turner. She still volunteers for Ed2010 as their Facebook manager. Alexandra Brown Senior Account Executive, FleishmanHillard Alexandra Brown is a senior account executive at global public relations agency FleishmanHillard. She provides strategic counsel, develops content and written materials, and conducts media outreach on a local and national scale for clients including RSM US LLP and Ascension Health. In 2015, Brown co-founded the Get Involved initiative in the FleishmanHillard Chicago office, aiming to bring together employees across different practice groups to give back to the community. Outside of the office, she runs lifestyle blog Shelosophy, which aims to empower women to live their best lives, and sits on the junior board of non-profit My Favorite Outfit. She studied public relations at IU and earned a degree in journalism. Tonya Butler Professor of Music Industry Studies, Minnesota State University Tonya Butler, J.D., LL.M. is an educator, professional speaker, author, and entertainment industry advocate. She was recently a Professor of Entertainment Business at the famed Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood, CA; an Associate Professor of Music Business in the Recording Industry Department at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and a form Coordinator of the Music Business Program at the University of Memphis. She holds a Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law and a Master of Laws in Entertainment and Media from Southwestern University School of Law and Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, England. As a former Music Attorney and Record Label Executive Butler's work experience is comprehensive. Her numerous legal and business affairs credits include compilation album, film, and sound licensing for Rhino Records, contract work for MGM films and television shows, marketing and promotion on a variety of Pioneer Entertainment albums projects and legal representation for several major and independent entertainment companies. Professor Butler has served on the Memphis Shelby County film and Television Commission, the Memphis Rock 'N Soul Museum Board of Directors and the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Associations (MEIEA) Executive Board. She is a voting member and former two-term Governor of Memphis Chapter of the Recording Academy and is Chair Emeritus of the Memphis and Shelby County Music Commission. Colin Carter Creative Director/CEO, Mode Project Colin Carter is an award winning editor, creative director and founding principal of Mode Project, a Chicago-based design, animation and content production studio. Colin tells meaningful stories through film and animation for a wide range of clients including global brands, entertainment networks, higher education and non-profit causes. Colin and his team were creative partners to the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama, directing the design of the iconic Obama logo, and editing hundreds of broadcast ads and associated content. Recognition includes two Cannes Lions Grand Prix Awards, Broadcast Design Association Gold Awards, The New York Festivals World Medals and Emmy and Telly awards. Ryan Cost Senior Producer, Full Story Foundation Ryan Cost, BAJ ’06, is a senior producer at the Full Story Foundation –an educational non-profit that creates a variety of content across multiple platforms, specifically documentary films and long-form television programming. From 2011 until June 2016, Cost worked for The Blaze, where he was a writer and senior producer for the network’s investigative newsmagazine show For The Record. He also worked as a writer and producer for The Blaze documentary films division. In 2015, Cost wrote and produced the documentary Never Again Is Now, which chronicles the troubling rise of anti- Semitism in Europe. The film will be screened at the Media School on November 10th. From 2006-2010, Cost was producer/reporter and student manager for Palestra.net/UWIRE –an online network of college journalists that delivered content to ESPN, Fox Sports, CNN, and Fox News. While at IU, Cost worked for the IDS, WTIU, WFIU, and WIUX. Eric Deggans TV Critic, NPR Eric Deggans is TV critic, journalist, political commentator and author. Deggans worked at the Tampa Bay Times, formerly the St. Petersburg Times, for 18 years. While at the Times, he was a member of the editorial board, wrote bylined opinion columns and worked as a TV critic and media writer. In 2013, Deggans was named NPR’s first full-time TV critic. He also appears on various news networks, speaking on race issues in the media. Deggans’ book, Race Baiter: How the Media Wields Dangerous Words, examines how the media perpetuate prejudice. Julie DiCaro Anchor: The Score, CBS Julie DiCaro is a graduate of Ernie Pyle School of Journalism and DePaul University College of Law. After working as a criminal defense and family law attorney for 15 years, she switched career paths and began working as a sportswriter and broadcaster. She has written for publications such as Sports Illustrated, Fansided, Nerdist, and Deadspin, and currently works as an update anchor and fill-in host on 670 The Score Sports Radio in Chicago. Alex Dierckman Producer, WRTV-TV Alex is a producer at WRTV in Indianapolis and currently produces the RTV6 News at 11:00. She previously produced RTV6 News at Noon where she increased the show's energy and ratings over the course of a year. Alex graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington in May 2015. While immersed as a full time student, Alex worked part-time at Indiana Public Media (WTIU and WFIU News) as a multimedia journalist and anchor. Hugh Donkin Video Editor, Blueline Media Productions With a strong background in film photography, Hugh grew up shooting on a Arista 400, an out-of-manufacture black and white film. Over the years, he has found a special love of unusual photography techniques, such as voyeur shooting styles, pinhole cameras, double exposures, and specialty lenses. Anamorphic, soft focus style of Paul Thomas Anderson films like Magnolia or Hard Eight spark significant inspiration when he’s pairing visual storytelling with written or vocal storytelling. Gary Doyle Senior Vice President/Group Creative Director, Cramer Krasselt A Chicagoan, Doyle wrote for the Opinion Board and edited the Arts page on the IDS while at IU, and was an editor at Indianapolis Magazine upon graduation. But his career path eventually led to advertising. Doyle is a Senior Vice President/Group Creative Director at Cramer Krasselt, the second-largest independent advertising agency in the United States. His clients include Porsche, Edward Jones Investments, NPR, and the Alzheimer's Association. His work for his clients spans broadcast, digital, social and branded content, and has been recognized by Communication Arts, the One Show, the Effies, the Webbys and the London International Film Festival. Before CK,he was at Leo Burnett in Chicago for 15 years, running the Kellogg’s, Morgan Stanley, Coca-Cola , and McDonald's accounts. Over his career he has helped found companies and non-profits that have raised over $30 million in capital and advised many early stage founders on the challenging road to startup success through mentorship in 500 Startups, Matter VC and the European Innovation Academy. Kieran now works for Brightcove, the world's leading premium video provider for business, where he is helping build an online video open cloud ecosystem. Ilyssa Fradin National Vice President SAG-AFTRA, 1st VP Chicago Local, actor Ilyssa Fradin has been a professional Union performer for over 20 years. Having worked her way through the ‘tough’ competition of community theater in the North suburbs of Chicago as a kid, a Big Ten college theater program, a stint in NYC, Ilyssa became a career actor back in her now hometown of Chicago. Performing on stage at various off-loop theaters, as well as on camera in commercials, corporate videos, films and TV shows, and print, Ilyssa mostly enjoys the work she does as a Voice Over actor, voicing promo, narration, interactive, politicals and such campaigns as Allstate, Aleve, One A day, OFF, and thankfully many, many more. In 2000, Ilyssa was elected to the SAG Chicago Branch Council. She currently serves as 1st VP and was its past president in 2009.
