Los Gatos-Download.Pdf President’s Message 2012 Welcome to the 2012 Little League season in Los Ga- tos. The Los Gatos Little League mission is to develop fundamental baseball skills, while positively reinforc- ing lessons in teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship, both in victory and defeat. Another year brings our town the opportunity for our youth to participate in America’s greatest past-time. We have over 600 players on 51 teams, from T-Ball to Ma- jors and our Challenger Team. Our League is dependent on the efforts of our volunteers to run efficiently. The Board appreciates all of our volunteer coordinators who manage snack shack, umpiring, scorekeeping, coach- ing, field maintenance, Little League Day, evaluations, etc… It is important that each family fulfill their volun- teer requirement to keep the league running smoothly. Los Gatos Little League will transition from two divi- sions to one division as recognized by Little League Na- tional. For the past ten years we have been two divisions and had two all star teams at each level. We will have one all star team at each level starting in 2012. We are fortunate to have the support of the Town of Los Gatos. We have multiple town officials attending Little League Day. Throwing out the first pitch is Dan Campagnolo. Dan has been a long time umpire in our League, and has been the Chief Umpire for District 12 for the past five years. He has been chosen to umpire in William- sport, PA for the Little League World Series. Only fourteen umpires, worldwide, are chosen to umpire the Little League World Series. Congratulations to Dan. Every year Los Gatos Little League has openings on the Board to fill for the next season. Please let me know if you have interest in getting involved in the success of future years for our League. Finally, as a non-profit organization, we rely on sign up fees, donations, sponsorships, and special fundraising events, as well as revenue from the snack shack in order to maintain the league. Thank you, Jeff Williams President, Los Gatos Little League Los Gatos Little League 2012 Page 1 Board of Directors 2012 President Treasurer Volunteer Director Jeff Williams Jim Hori Jackie Castro Executive VP & Player Agent Equipment Director Safety Officer Tim Gardner Glenn Wilcox Mark Youngblood VP-Baseball Operations Information Director Challenger Director Chris Ray Chris Wright Danielle Jolley VP Community Relations Chief Umpire Sponsorship & Fundraising Director Phil Knopf Justin Crotty Rod Stuhlmuller VP Fields/Facilities Coaching & Clinics Director Concessions Director Jeff Webb Bryan McCollam Susan LaRagione Secretary Tournament Director Steve White Joe Cerrito Past Presidents 1956 Ed Sonntag 1975 Dave Nicodemo 1994 Paul Zebb 1957 Ed Sonntag 1976 Al Rubnitz 1995 Paul Zebb 1958 Ed Sonntag 1977 Al Rubnitz 1996 Blair Hansen 1959 Ed Sonntag 1978 Al Rubnitz 1997 Blair Hansen 1960 Don Shank 1979 Paul Mahoney 1998 Bill Danser 1961 Don Shank 1980 Paul Mahoney 1999 Bill Danser 1962 Don Shank 1981 Paul Mahoney 2000 Bill Danser 1963 Bud Rimback 1982 Bill Frey 2001 Tim Blackwell 1964 Ed Woodhams 1983 Bill Frey 2002 Tim Blackwell 1965 Ed Woodhams 1984 Bill Frey 2003 Rob Dunne 1966 Ed Woodhams 1985 Jeff Lewis 2004 Rob Dunne 1967 Al Block 1986 Jeff Lewis 2005 Rob Dunne 1968 Ray Cobb 1987 Jeff Lewis 2006 Marc Murano 1969 Phil Couchee 1988 Denny Kollenborn 2007 Marc Murano 1970 Micky Davis 1989 Scott Thompson 2008 Dave Ferrari 1971 Tom Easley 1990 Scott Thompson 2009 Joe Clancy 1972 Tom Easley 1991 Steve Torres 2010 Gary Briggs 1973 Al Brock 1992 Steve Torres 2011 Will Lasher 1974 Al Brock 1993 Paul Zebb 2012 Jeff Williams Page 2 Los Gatos Little League 2012 Umpires 2012 Umpires strive to be anonymous. A well-umpired game is one in which coaches, players, and spectators take no notice of the umpires or their actions. Such is the signature of a competent, prepared officiating crew. Umpires also strive to be accurate and efficient in their roles. A good umpire is dressed appropriately, is in control of the game, and understands the rules and how to keep a game moving at a swift pace. A good umpire is fair and unbiased and is a teacher as well as a game official. Los Gatos Little League is proud to continue our tradition of developing and using youth umpires at all levels of play from AA through Majors. The LGLL Youth Umpire Program currently supports over 30 youth umpires from ages 11-18. These kids do a great job for us. LGLL is also lucky to have a strong core team of adult umpires who have consistently given their time and energy to help make our league a strong and competitive one. LGLL is dedicated to the development and support of our youth umpires, and promotes their development through annual rules and mechanics training as well as active support from coaches and District 12 umpire resources Los Gatos Little League is a member of the District 12 Little League area. District 12 boasts a very strong group of veteran umpires that have been made available to us for training, to work games, and to provide tips and tricks to our umpires. Larry Gomez, the District 12 Umpire in Chief, has been a huge supporter of all the Little Leagues’ within the District and is a fantastic resource for umpires looking to develop their craft. District 12 and it’s umpire quality has been honored this year by the national office of Little League by the selection of Dan Cam- pagnolo, a District 12 umpire and resident of Los Gatos, to be an umpire in the Little League World Series in August of 2012. Only 14 Little League Umpires from around the world are selected each year to officiate the Little League World Series and Dan will be among that elite group this summer. Congratulations Dan – nice job Blue! So next time you see a youth umpire sweating in the sun, or a District 12 umpire generously giving time to our league, please stop and say, “Thanks, Blue,” and recognize the efforts of the always present, but rarely appreciated umpire. We couldn’t do this without them. I lusted after the various sports games advertised in the magazines until my mom finally relented and bought Strat-O-Matic Football for me in 1972. I got SOM’s baseball game a year later and I was hooked. I would get the new card set each year and attempt to play the in-progress season by moving the traded players around and turning ‘nameless player cards” into that year’s key rookies. I switched to APBA in the late ‘70’s because they started releasing some complete old season sets and the idea of playing with those really caught my fancy. Between then and the mid-nineties, I collected a lot of card sets.
