BACK TO THE SIXTIES with THE MANFRED’S - “MAXIMUM RHYTHM ‘N’ BLUES + GEORGIE FAME Still touring in 2018 original members Paul Jones, Mike D’abo, Mike Hugg and Tom McGuiness are joined by Rob Townsend, Marcus Cliff and Simon Currie as the exciting new line-up of The Manfred’s. Since Manfred Mann formed in 1962 they have firmly secured their place in the history books of popular R & B music. Amazing how popular they where in the 1960’s and still popular now, remember ‘5-4-3-2-1’ the theme tune to the TV show ‘Ready Steady Go!’, ‘Hubble, Bubble (Toil and Trouble)’, ‘Do Wah Diddy Diddy’, ‘Pretty Flamingo’, ‘Just Like A Woman’, ‘Mighty Quinn’, ‘Fox on The Run’, to name a few and they can still be heard playing on radio today! I caught their show on Saturday October 27th at The Anvil, Basingstoke part of their current tour, I’ve now seen the band live 4 times in the past ten years and they change the format and run each time making this truly an entertaining and colourful evening. Since The Manfred’s reformed in 1991, they have been in constant demand through out the World, understandable considering the amount of top ten hits they had not only with The Manfred’s but also individually as well. So the tour set is a well formed mixture with special guest star Georgie Fame who played a selection of his hits from that period ‘Get Away’, ‘Yeh, Yeh’, ‘The Ballard of Bonnie & Clyde’ and some other quality songs mixed in. Both acts have talent and class, great show from professionals. Buzzing live music, go on, next time they appear this way, go and buy tickets, you will not regret it!!
