Varese shortens the distance. The province is at the heart of Europe, at the foot of the Alps, and is a stepping stone to the north of the continent. The area is also an important strategic base for logistics firms (more than 2000 companies operate from here) as a result of the first-class infrastructure (Malpensa intercontinental airport, the Alp Transit rail project and an extensive road network). Varese exports globally. Varese’s trade surplus adds up to nearly €9 billion a year, while more than 30% of the manufacturing revenue comes from exports alone.
