Doreen Button With deep regret, we announce that Doreen Button passed away on 16th October after a short illness. Doreen, originally from Yorkshire, was very much involved with the Park Café since its opening, working Tuesday mornings as a volunteer. She was also part of the Knit and Natter group, meeting twice a week and was a regular at Monday Club, held each week in the War Memorial Hall. Like her husband Jack, who passed away in 2017, Doreen did so much for the community. Our thoughts go out to her three sons, family and friends. She will be missed. Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Park Café Glen Parva War Memorial

This year’s Macmillan Coffee Morning, our third, was held on the morning of Friday 27 September 2019. What a great success it was, raising the magnificent sum of £689.70. An array of delicious homemade cakes and scones, all donated by our wonderful volunteer bakers, were on sale to tempt our customers, along with tea and coffee, served by volunteers at The Park Café. The Library Knit & Natter group held a ‘Name the Teddy’ competition and we also held a raffle with some wonderful prizes. We thank everyone who so kindly donated prizes and especially acknowledge the following local businesses who donated so generously: • Rutland Cycling, Everards Meadows • Sensei, Needham Avenue, Glen Parva • Enderby Leisure Centre, Enderby • Kalimo Hair Salon, Carvers Corner, Glen Parva

Many thanks to the volunteers and Memorial Hall staff who generously gave their time to run this event, and to our lovely, supportive local community for coming along to make this such a success.

Crime Report

As winter is upon us and the nights are darker, it’s time to think about your safety and security. If you are out and about when it is dark make sure you can be seen. If possible, try and keep to well-lit areas and wear light or reflective clothing. If you are walking your dog, the same applies to them, and a reflective collar or coat will make sure that they can be seen as well. Always take extra care crossing roads etc. Also, if you are a cyclist, make sure that other road users can see you. You should have lights to the front and rear of your bicycle to ensure that you are visible. Don’t forget that you can also cause danger to others, particularly pedestrians, if you cannot be seen or heard as you approach them. We are now into the firework season and this can lead to complaints of anti social behaviour. They are great fun but can be dangerous if you use them irresponsibly as well as being dangerous or annoying to others. To keep within the law: You should not set off fireworks in the street or other public place. You should not set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am. The exceptions to that are: On Bonfire night when the cut off time is midnight. On New Year’s Eve, Diwali, and the Chinese New Year when the cut off time is 1am. Fireworks can be bought from registered sellers at the following times: From 15th October to 10th November. From 26th to 31st December. Three days before Diwali or the Chinese New Year. At any other time, fireworks can only be bought from licensed shop. Stay safe and keep it legal. You are probably spending less time outside in the garden during the winter. Sheds and other outbuildings will be vulnerable. Make sure you check them regularly to make sure that they are still secure and in good order. Make sure that there is nothing outside that someone can use to climb over gates and walls to gain access to the rear of your property where they will be unseen. If you are not going to be at home when it gets dark, use automatic timers to switch on lights and create the impression that someone is there. Police Surgeries

There are no Police Surgeries planned at the moment and the dates and locations of any future events will be published on their website or Facebook page. GLEN PARVA PARISH COUNCIL GLEN PARVA WAR MEMORIAL HALL Galsworthy suite Bellamy room
