Message from the Director

Dear homeowners, residents, and visitors, I am excited to invite you to a full season of summer activities here at the Town of Killington’s Department of Parks and Recreation. We are thankful to have a state that is open due to a high vaccination rate and are looking forward to a full event calendar that follows the Vermont Forward Plan. I am especially excited for the Fourth of July celebration. We are calling all businesses, organizations, and creative individuals to participate in the parade. The Johnson Recreation Center Pool is open mid-June through late August for swim lessons, public swimming, and swim team!

Swim Lessons

Whether your child is getting in the water for the first time or looking to refine their swim technique, we’ve got a class for them. Held in 2-week sessions, classes take place Monday and Wednesdays with make ups on Fridays due to weather. Higher level sessions to be determined based on demand. Fee $44/Session Residents Evening Group Lessons $53/Session Non-Residents Level 3/4 5:00 PM—5:30 PM

Level 1/2 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM

Level I: Help first time swimmers feel comfortable in the water Level 2: Students learn how to float and start to develop fundamental skills. Level 3: Students learn to front crawl, backstroke, and tread Level 4: Students learn endurance swimming in elementary back water stroke, breast stroke, sidestroke, and to turn at the wall. Private lessons is designed for any age swimmer, child to adult, who may need more individual instruction or flexibility in schedule. 3 Killington Sharks Summer Swim Team

The Summer Swim Team is designed for youth interested in competitive swimming. Swim team practices four days a week (Monday—Thursday) at the Johnson Recreation Center Pool.

Practice: Fee: $189 for the season 11 and older: 5:45 –7 PM Coaches: Kristin Alf, Heidi Alf, Taylor Blodorn, Otto Nisimblat 10 and under: 9 am - 9:45 AM

5 Specialty Camps

Technical Skills & Small-Sided Games Soccer Camp June 21-25th Kick the summer off right by improving your soccer skills! Killington Rec is partnering with Castleton University Head Men's Soccer Coach John O'Connor as well as his staff and players to improve players' skills while having a fun and enjoyable experience on the field. Learn new skills each day with a focus on individual improvement. This camp is taught at a level where players will be challenged during the week and have an incredible soccer experience at the same time.

Skateboarding Camp June 28th-July 2nd Or Aug. 16th-20th

Darkside and Killington Recreation present Skateboarding Camp. Full day or half day will be available with transportation to the Recreation Center for full day campers. Campers need to be dropped off at Darkside at 9 am and picked up at Killington Recrea- tion Center at 5:00 PM (unless 1/2 day, drop off at Darkside at 9am and pick up at 1:00 PM) Please provide lunch.

Tennis Camp July 26th-30th

Fun filled week of games that will help youngsters learn the fundamentals of tennis. Instructor breaks down each drill to help stu-

dents understand the proper technique.

Karate Camp August 2nd-6th

Join us for a fun-filled introduction to martial arts for kids ages 6 to 9. In this camp, we will focus for 90 minutes per day on Karate with Sensei Gary Thompson. Children will be exposed to team building, basic stances, footwork, blocking and basic self-defense techniques. The camp is open to current karate students as well as kids new to martial arts!

6 4th of July Celebration

Calling all Killington residents, visitors, and businesses. Our Independence Day celebration is back! There will be a parade on River Road, fireman's BBQ, lawn games, fireworks and more! Enjoy food cooked by the Fire Department and other volunteers throughout the day. Be sure to bring a picnic blanket to enjoy the infamous fireworks show, beginning at Dark. Times Subject to Change. Killington Chili Cook-Off

The 8th Annual Killington Chili Cook-Off will be back this year and is sure to bring back the best tasting chili in town! Join the competition and bring your finest chili to compete for the title of Best Chili in Killington, or stop by the Cook- Off to taste the competitors creations. 7 River Road Summer Concert Series

Head to the Sherburne Memorial Library for this exciting summer concert series. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks to relax in the cool summer nights while enjoying a variety of free musical entertain- ment. Concerts run 6-7:30 pm.

Gypsy Reel August 19, 2021 Irish Folk Rock Gypsy Reel play high energy stirring music rooted in the Celtic tradition but garnered from the whole world. Their mu- sic is an exciting synthesis of world rhythms and influences from 3 continents. Chad Hollister Band August 26, 2021 Rock Chad Hollister Band has been evolving and touring the country for over 20 years. His music is a voice for the Positive and reminds you that life is truly a gift as is the ability to share it through music.

BOOK CLUB meets the last Wednesday of the month at 1:30pm at the Sherburne Memorial Library. Books are available at the library. Johnson Recreation Center

Tennis and Pickleball courts are open on a first come first serve basis. Two Pickleball nets are available to be used on the court closest to the road. Ping pong, air hockey, and shuffle board is also available.

Equipment can be borrowed from the lifeguard stand during pool hours.
