INTRODUCTION The Southern Cross Challenge (SCC) is an Under 14 and Under 15 competition for boys and girls that features games between teams from , South Australia, Western Australia and the ACT. In most cases, each state is represented by teams from both the country and metropolitan region. The competition is clearly defined as developmental.

Competition will start on Friday 15 January and conclude on Monday 18 January 2016.

While the competition is focussed heavily on development for players, coaches and referees we are proud to name four perpetual awards after Victorian basketball heroes David Andersen, , Rachel Jarry and Jenna O’Hea.

These perpetual trophies are awarded to the highest placed team in each competition. VICTORIAN AMBASSADORS MATTHEW DELLAVEDOVA Born in Maryborough, Victoria. Matthew represented both the Maryborough Blazers and the Bendigo Braves as a junior rep player and represented Vic Country winning Gold at the U16 National Champs in 2005 and represented Vic Country in 2006 and 2007 at the U18 Nationals and Victoria in 2008 at the U20 Nationals. In 2009 Matthew was recruited to the St Marys Gael NCAA College team and broke records throughout his time there. In 2012 Matthew was selected in the Australian Olympic Boomers team for the London games and in September 2013, Matthew is a current and integral member of the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA team and started 5 games in the 2015 NBA Finals matchup against the Golden State Warriors.

RACHEL JARRY Born in Williamstown, Victoria. Rachel commenced basketball at 5 years of age and represented Altona Gators as a junior rep player. Rachel represented Vic Metro at the National Champs in 2007 and 2008 and then the Victorian U20’s in 2009, winning Gold. Rachel was selected to represent Australia 25 times with the Gems U19 team and competed at the 2009 World Championships in Turkey. In 2012 Rachel was selected in the Australian Olympic Opals team and won bronze in London and and won bronze with the Opals at the 2014 World Championships in Turkey. Rachel is part of the WNBA team, winning the WNBA Championship in 2013 & the Boomers in the Australian WNBL.

DAVID ANDERSEN Born in Carlton, Victoria. David represented the as a junior rep player and represented Vic Metro at the U16, U18 and U20 National Championships. David was selected for the Australian U20 Team and competed at the 1999 World Championships in Portugal and then for the Australian U22 Team at the 2001 World Championships in Japan. David has been part of the Australian Boomers team at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics. David has had an outstanding career in Europe and in 2013 signed with Turkish super club, Fenerbahce Ulker and added the Turkish Cup and Turkish Cup MVP awards to his bulging trophy cabinet.

JENNA O’HEA Born in Traralgon Victoria. Jenna represented Nunawading Spectres as a junior rep player and represented Vic Metro at the U16 National Champs in 2001 & 2002 moving to the U18’s in 2003 and then the Victorian U20 team. Jenna won the Betty Watson Rookie of the Year at the AIS in 2003 and represented the Australian Gems U19 team on 19 occasions throughout 2003, 2004 and 2005. Jenna also represented the Australian U21 Sapphires at the World Championships in Russia in 2007. In 2012 Jenna was selected in the Australian Olympic Opals team and won bronze in London.
