This weekend in the SEC With no midweek games, we’ll preview the penultimate weekend of SEC play in the 2002 campaign. LSU visits Florida this weekend before hosting Alabama to close the season. Here’s a look at the rest of the league:

Mississippi St. at AlabamaAlabama—Rivals separated by just 80 miles of US 82, but by much more thana that in the standings. Bulldogs need big bounce back after being swept by Florida, but will be hard to get it at “The Joe”, where Alabama is 28-2 this year. Tide lost two at Georgia and need to keep one-half game lead over South Carolina. Georgia at Auburn—Another “backyard” battle, as the Bulldogs look to keep momentum from big series win over Alabama going, but have been inconsistent on the road (5-7 in the league on the road, 9-3 in Athens). Auburn won three one-run decisions from Vandy on final at bat to overtake MSU for 7th seed in SEC Tourney. Tennessee at South Carolina—Vols fighting for post-season life, but Gamecocks might pull the plug, as Carolina is playing for the overall league title. Big Orange stole first game from LSU, but gave up 39 hits in two losses; Gamecocks won two from slumping Ole Miss. Arkansas at Ole Miss—Rebels looking to get healthy and put Razorbacks’ post-season hopes to rest. Hogs, meanwhile, became first team in more than a year to lose a series to Kentucky (at home, no less). Kentucky at Vanderbilt—Two teams out of the post-season race entirely meet in Music City. Bat Cats on high of road series win at Arkansas; Commodores low after three last at-bat losses at Auburn.

Next weekend: Alabama at LSU; Ole Miss at Mississippi St.; Auburn at Arkansas; South Carolina at Geor- gia; Florida at Kentucky; Tennessee at Vanderbilt. Notes on the Tigers—Position Players
