2019 APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (LIWP) Mission of the APA LIWP is to prepare, support, and empower women psychologists as leaders to promote positive changes in institutional, organizational and practice settings as well as American Psychological Association governance, and increase the diversity, number and effectiveness of women psychologists as leaders.

2019-2020 Purdue Insights Forum, Purdue University Program focuses on developing leadership skills in faculty who are interested in administration at Purdue, particularly at the Associate Head, Head, Associate Dean, and Center/Institute Director levels.

2020 Women’s Leadership Success in , Academic Impressions Three day event focusing on how gender (along with other factors like generation, geography, and diversity) gives a unique perspective that can shape and empower one’s leadership style. Program included conflict management, inclusive leadership, influencing without authority.

2020-2023 Faculty Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion to Purdue’s Provost/Chief Diversity Officer Appointed to this committee to advise Purdue's Provost/Chief Diversity Officer, Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion, and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs on strategies for advancing campus diversity and inclusion generally and specifically supporting the success of underrepresented faculty.

2020-2021 Diversity Fellow, College of Education Appointed to this inaugural role to enhance CEO’s efforts in diversity, equity and inclusion in the College of Education. Developing initiatives to educate and collaborate with faculty, staff and students to create a community that pursue racial justice and equity.

2020-2021 Associate Head, Department of Educational Studies Department Size: Over 35 faculty members, 4 staff positions and numerous adjuncts across 6 program areas. In this transitionary role to the Department Head position, working closely with the Interim Department Head and College of Education Leadership Team on hiring, mentoring, promotion and tenure process, budget management and revenue generation for the department and College.

2013-2019 Program Director, APA accredited Counseling Psychology Program, Program size: 30-35 students with 5-6 core faculty with a training clinic that provides clinical services to the Purdue community and Greater Lafayette area. Responsible for program administration, curriculum, students and alumni issues, communication with the administration at the University as well as the accrediting body. Specific emphasis for a more inclusive program environment particularly for students from marginalized backgrounds. Led efforts to align the doctoral curriculum with the new Accreditation Standards approved by APA in Ayşe Çiftçi 3

2017. Initiated a new program-wide seminar in collaboration with other faculty in response to the graduate students’ concerns about the program climate for students of color that triggered critical dialogues among faculty resulting in review of program policies and procedures. Chaired and/or co- chaired three faculty searches that resulted in hiring a more diverse faculty.

2015-2017 Chair/Co-Chair, College of Education (COE) Faculty Affairs Committee College of Education size: over 70 faculty members. Initiated 2-3 different conversation hours each semester for faculty about “how to engage in difficult conversations” on topics around race (including between students of color and White students/faculty), creating safe and inclusive space for faculty of color in the COE and engaging in difficult dialogues around complex identities (e.g., atheist, non-English speaker). These discussions were recognized by other units and Colleges, which resulted with additional workshops and discussions around the campus.

2017 (Spring) Interim Member, Purdue University Faculty Senate University Faculty Size: Over 100 faculty members representing all Colleges and academic units. Represented College of Education in the Senate as the governing body of the faculty with policy making powers. Served on the Equity and Diversity sub-committee working towards developing policies for a more inclusive campus

2016 Member, University Taskforce on Associate COACHE Work Group Workgroup size: Seven members from diverse colleges chaired by the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs. Provost office created this workgroup after the 2015 Collaborative on Academic Career in Higher Education (COACHE) data indicated that associate professors, particularly women from underrepresented backgrounds were identified as a group with most critical issues about university climate. This work group analyzed the data and provided recommendations to the Purdue community and the Provost Office. These recommendations were used in developing new faculty initiatives.

2018-2020 Mentor, College of Education Mentoring program for junior faculty Mentored four junior faculty during their transition to faculty role including bi-weekly face-to- face meetings.

2014-2015 Member, College of Education Social Justice Big Moves Task Force Developed short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals for the College of Education focusing on Social Justice resulting in emergence of “social justice” as the second signature area for the College and re-activation of the Diversity Committee in the College.

2015-2019 Council of Chairs of Training Councils (CCTC); Member (2015-2017) Chair (2017-2019) CCTC is the council of chairs of 15 training councils representing about 3000 graduate education and training programs in psychology in the U.S. and Canada including , clinical psychology, professional psychology, VA training, internship. Led an effort to focus on diversity issues in graduate education and training in psychology. Developed a working group to address issues related to international trainees. Initiated and led the Ayşe Çiftçi 4 first discussion in the larger training community with PCSAS (Psychological Clinical Accreditation System, a new accrediting body in direct competition with APA’s Commission on Accreditation). Initiated a taskforce to establish a new APA division focused on graduate education and training in psychology. Co-chair of the 2020 CCTC joint training conference that occurs every 10 years with a theme of “Social Responsibility.”

2014-2018 Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs (CCPTP); President-elect designate (2014-2015); President-elect (2015-2016); President (2016-2017); Past-President (2017-2018) This council represents 72 counseling psychology doctoral program members in the U.S. Focused on international education and training and faculty competencies as they related to individual and cultural diversity training. Led the initiative to develop a community service project and integrated community engagement into the annual conference. Initiated the inaugural leadership program/institute for junior faculty interested in leadership development in education and training issues in psychology. Based on the success of this initiative, the executive board voted to continue this initiative.

2013-2014 Member, American Psychological Association Implementation Work Group; Member of the subgroup on Leadership Development; Chair of the subgroup on Boards and Committees. This 22-member work group developed and enacted transition plans to enhance the nimbleness of APA governance and increase member engagement based on the recommendations from the Good Governance Project (GGP). GGP was a multiyear effort to optimize the association’s governing system for the needs of the 21st century. Developed policy changes that were approved by a majority of Council members including changes in Technology, Leadership Development, implementation of the Needs Assessment, Slating and Campaigns Committee and the Council Leadership Team, the Triage and Authorities Matrix. These changes have had a broad impact on the Council and the larger organization of APA, positioning APA to be a more nimble and responsive organization.

2011-2013 Committee on Early Career Psychologists (CECP), Member (2011-2012), Chair (2013) As Chair, I led the first strategic planning process for this Committee to advocate for issues related to early career psychologists. Strategic goals included increasing the presence of ECPs in APA governance and focusing on psychologists from diverse background. In August, 2014, APA Council voted to include seats for an Early Career Psychologists on all Boards and Committees. Led an effort to revise the definition of Early Career Psychologists, which was approved by the Council in February 2014. Advocated for the establishment of an ECP Office in the organization, which was accomplished in 2016.

CCL consists of 3- credit bearing courses: EDPS 315 (Collaborative Leadership: Interpersonal Skills), EDPS 316 (Collaborative Leadership: Cross-Cultural Settings), EDPS 317 (Collaborative Leadership: Mentoring) with a significant increasing demand for this Certificate program over time (from four sections for EDPS 315 in fall 2014 to 24 sections in fall 2020).

Grants Funded – Professional Development Ciftci, A. (Co-PI, 2017-2020). Faculty Retention and Success through Intergroup Dialogue and Inclusion Alliances. Purdue University Provost Office, $1,650,000

As a part of an interdisciplinary team composed of faculty from five Colleges, this grant focuses on faculty retention and success, particularly underrepresented faculty, through intergroup dialogue and inclusion alliances. Developed and implemented a 3-part educational workshops designed to raise cultural awareness, foster community, explore equality vs. equity, and increase faculty’s sense of agency to effect change. Two cohorts consisting of 29 faculty from nine different Colleges participated.
