2010 Florida Football Urban Meyer Florida Head Coach Post-Game Quotes Florida 38, USF 14 September 11, 2010

Opening statement: “Their quarterback (B.J. Daniels) is a stud; he’s a tough nut. We have a lot of respect for the outlet we just played. When I said they’re SEC caliber, they might not have the depth, but they have the players. That’s a good team. Our offensive line put it on their shoulders in the second half. That’s the hardest our running backs have run here in quite awhile. I thought (Emmanuel) Moody did a great job of running at pad-level. (Mike) Gillislee ran hard. (Jeff) Demps really ran hard but also showed that blazing speed. Our receivers aren’t where we need to be, but they’re better. We’re starting to get that rotation in there. We continue to grow that group the best we can. The defensive line had a nice little rotation going as well. We have to rotate them, especially in the heat. Special teams was finally the way it’s supposed to look around here. Janoris (Jenkins) did a really good job. Demps did a really nice job as well. I’d like to thank our fans. That was hot; it was a tough one today. It was tough. For them to be loud and cause a few false starts and timeouts, that was huge. Hats off to our fans, because I appreciate that. We were also 5-0 in the turnover battle, and that was a big part of this.”

On the first offensive drive: “I was disappointed because we had a good kickoff return to start the game and didn’t move the ball. I was real disappointed. We have to get that corrected. You won’t win SEC games like that. They worked on us all year. They had really good pressure on us. Their defensive coordinator did a great job. They were blitzing their tail off.”

On B.J. Daniels: “They have a veteran quarterback who made some plays. He was scrambling and running the triple option and made some plays that kind of quarterback can do. He played fantastic. Their quarterback is a superstar. He’s a really good player.”

On the freshman class: “That freshman class is really starting to come on. Even the guys you don’t see much playing time like Neiron Ball, Cody Riggs and Jaylen Watkins. Robert Clark did a heck of a job. They have to be. There are some other young ones coming on. (Quinton) Dunbar and (Chris) Dunkley haven’t come on. We need them all. I love when Shariff (Floyd) gets up and gets loud. It gets me fired up.”

2010 Florida Football Florida Player Post-Game Quotes Florida 38, USF 14 September 11, 2010

Junior Wide Receiver Deonte Thompson On the offensive performance: “I thought we had a rhythm going. We were in sync with the offensive line pushing them back. The quarterback had time and we just started playing football - Florida football.”

On the change in performance in the second half: “It took a while for us to get into the game offensively. Once we got a feel for the game, we got the offense running.”

Junior Cornerback Janoris Jenkins On the younger guys getting more playing time: “The young guys played good. They come out every week, practice and go hard.”

On helping the young players: “I just told them to relax, avoid all the double moves and press them every time we switch to man coverage.”

Senior Running Back On the difference between this game and last game: “Last game we struggled; I don’t know what it was. Today, we got things rolling and executed the game plan. The offensive line did a phenomenal job today; the running backs are nothing without them.”

On the difference between the first and second half: “We got a lot of the kinks out in the first half. Coach Meyer and Coach Addazio gave us a pep talk and motivated the guys to come out in the second half and go as hard as they could.” 2010 Florida Football Skip Holtz USF Head Coach Post-Game Quotes Florida 38, USF 14 September 11, 2010

Opening statement: “Let me start by saying how proud I am of the football team, the way they came in here and the way they competed here at Florida Field. I thought this team was not intimidated. I thought the team played extremely hard. They showed that they deserve to be on this field. I was really proud of this football team. At the same time, I give Florida an awful lot of credit. They are a team that has been here; they know how to win and are proven. I thought they showed some great poise; they did not panic or anything else. They did a great job. Urban Meyer has done a phenomenal job, obviously, with this football team and I know they are replacing an awful lot of starters from a year ago. They really did a nice job of stepping in and being very patient. They have a tremendous amount of talent on the football team.”

On the difference of the game: “I thought the difference in this football game was turnovers. I thought our team played hard but we certainly did not play smart enough to win. Turnovers are the number one thing - the single biggest statistic that shows winning and losing. It is not yards, it’s not punts, it’s not yards per kickoff return, etc. The number one statistic in the country that determines wins and losses is turnovers and I believe we finished minus five in that category today. You are not going to win too many football games turning the ball over. Like I said, I’m proud the way our football team played, but there are an awful lot of things that we have to turn around, turn straight and get better at if we expect to compete in the Big East.”

On QB B.J. Daniels: “I would say athletically he is a tremendous athlete. He is a great competitor and he more or less put this football team on his shoulders the opening drive and we went right down the field. He can run and make some things happen. He can do some things. Right now we did not make some good decisions in the passing game. I can live with an incomplete pass. You have to remember this, B.J. is a sophomore on the field and he is a true freshman in this offense. I thought in some split-second decisions today, he did not make some of the wise choices, but he is a tremendous talent; he is a tremendous competitor. It does not bother anybody more than it does him in that locker room.”

2010 Florida Football USF Player Post-Game Quotes Florida 38, USF 14 September 11, 2010

Senior CB Mistral Raymond On the outcome of the game. “It’s obviously not how we wanted to finish this game. That’s not how we want to finish any ballgame. You have to praise Florida on the way they played through 60 minutes of football. We went out there, got a fast start, the energy was there, the excitement was there and all of a sudden it was not. As a football team, we have to go back a re-group and figure out why that energy wasn’t there the second half.”

On USF’s turnovers: “The thing about turnovers from a defensive standpoint is you to be able to go out there and get stops. I’m not sure how many turnovers we had, but obviously the offense did turn the ball over but as a defense, you have to go out there and hold them to at least three. I don’t think we did a good enough job at that and like I said, we’re going to go back to the drawing board and we’re going to correct those things.”

Sophomore QB B.J. Daniels On his play in today’s game: “It was ok. There were a lot of things I can definitely change. The turnovers definitely hurt. It’s definitely something I’m going to go onto the field and practice next week and hopefully try and fix. ”

On possibly trying to make too many things happen: “In my heart I just want to win, no matter how it happens. We have a lot of athletes and guys around us and I’m just trying to get it to them.”

On USF’s opening drive and the confidence it gave him: “Our team has a lot of confidence and we feel that no one can beat us but us. Today was an example of just us beating ourselves.”

On the similarities between this game and last year’s game against FSU in Tallahassee: “It’s somewhat similar, very similar, going into a hostile crowd. They’re loud, just like Florida State is loud. As far as the stadiums are concerned, this one is a tiny bit bigger, it does have more people, but basically to us it was the same situation.”
