They'll be no survey for next week. Please mail your reports toward the middle of next week. W e ’ll try to get to press with the next issue on the 23rd. Appreciate your cooperation, as it is the first extended vacation we’ve had in several years. Shannon-WPGA-Perry, Georgia, music director would appreciate any assistance offered in obtaining new releases. Station is full time top forty and re­ ceives little attention, (it’s a good small radio market.) Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is about set for another big tourist season and Billy Smith at WTGR would also appreciate any service on newer releases. Now, once again, for the record to our correspondents, I have no formula for obtaining new releases. This is an internal operational problem for your station. It is the responsibility of your general manager to see that the program director has the materials with which to work. And if you are lacking programming materials such as records, then it is a public relations job the two must do. You must sell your station to a record manufacturer or distributor. They are in no way obligated to service you, but if you can impress them, as you do potential time buyers, I am sure your tree will bear fruit, in most cases. I began my career at a small station, and I also worked for a record company before I entered broadcasting. I see both sides of the issue, so do not write me or any company a letter in poor taste demanding this and that. Use my experiences and that of others to be diplomatic and cooperative and pray for the best. Otherwise your problems will fall on deaf ears and in many cases already have. New area Pulse for Charlotte shows WGIV, once again number one. They deserve much credit, because they beat one of the best operations in the South, which I ’m sure will roar back to the top. Chet Smith, former program director of WROD joins WFUN as a staff announcer- deejay. Paul Wolfe, program director at WRDW-Augusta, Georgia has an opening for a man holding a first class license, for the all night show. Staff expansion has created an opening at WDXY-Sumter, South Carolina. Contact Dick Reus. PAPERBACK WRITER/RAIN - Beatles (Capitol) Due for official release in two weeks, but the 'exclusives' will be around shortly. 1000 TIMES - Platters (Musicor) We all missed this one. I guarantee it will be a hit wherever it is exposed. Group has had a few years of tough sledding, but this one has it in the grooves. Top ten at WIGO and WUST.     Paul Simon concert in Israel So…I hesitated down to the last moment about Paul Simon, 6 p.m. on Thursday evening in Jerusalem, and in the end took the advice of Jill, one of our bright young interns at the Palestine-Israel Journal, “to fly on the seat of my pants”, which I gather means, “go by instinct.” My torn instinct led exhausted me to stay in Jerusalem to hear Dr. Hans-Gert Pottering, former president of the European Parliament talk about “The Arab Spring and the New Middle East”, together with three other German colleagues, at the nearby Konrad Adenauer Conference Center at Mishkenot Sha’ananim. The event itself was quite fascinating, as was the networking at the post- event reception, though it was a little unnerving to hear four Germans speaking in Jerusalem in German (of course with simultaneous translation into Hebrew and English). I was told that the fact that Chancellor Merkel was allowed to address the Knesset in German broke the ice about Germans speaking German in Israel. But of course, I simultaneously wondered what I had missed at the Paul Simon concert, and carefully read all the reviews. From the playlist of 22 songs, I see that he avoided singing his masterpiece, “Bridge Over Troubled Waters,” maybe because Garfunkle wasn’t there with his golden voice. He also chose not to sing “Homeward Bound,” “I am a Rock,” “El Condor Pasa” (“I’d rather be a hammer than a nail”), and many other Simon & Garfunkle classics. Gideon Levy on the front page of Haaretz wrote about how it reminded him of his youth, and the soundtrack of his youth.

    ESE 150 – Lab 10: File Systems (or Organizing Data) LAB 10 Today’s Lab has the following objectives: 1. Learn how to organize data for ease and optimize retrieval 2. Design an Application-Specific File Systems Background: FILE SYSTEMS Data can be stored compactly and inexpensively on bulk storage devices like magnetic and solid-state “disk” drives. Between both the sheer capacity of data (Gigabytes to Terabytes) and the high ratio between capacity and bandwidth, it is necessary to carefully organize our data so that we can find data and access it quickly. This is the goal of a file system. The file system puts structure on top of the raw capacity so that we can find where data is physically stored. File system hierarchy and directories allow us to minimize the time required to navigate the data on the disk to find and retrieve our data. The Art of Cheer Abstract The fta ernoon I bought my first record, "Red Rubber Ball" by the Cyrkle, I went to my best friend Jovita Becker's house. She plucked the single from the sleeve and dropped it onto her turntable with a crunch of the needle as the sound of the Farftsa organ rang out, and we danced the Pony on the bouncy, wood floor of her upstairs bedroom. I went to her house often, late afternoons, after Catholic school, while her parents were still at work at their grocery store.     OLLI CAL, 2020 fall online syllabus Instructor: Pete Elman Course Title: "It's All About the Song" Sub-title: "The Mount Olympus of American pop-rock songwriters" Course description : The essence of popular music is the song; whether it is folk, pop, rock, R&B, soul or country, the song is the core of the popular record. This course examines the lives and work of eight great songwriter/artists of the golden era of rock and roll. We will study the contributions of Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, the team of Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Brian Wilson, the duo of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne and Joni Mitchell. Through the use of audio, video, stories and live in-class music, we will look at, listen to and break down the musical and lyrical components of songs by these composers, in order to better understand and appreciate the artistry, insight and social context these songwriters brought to popular music. Class description: The course will be broken up chronologically, focusing on one songwriter each week.
