The virtual Summit will take a deep dive into THBI’s legislative priorities as we approach the 87th Texas Legislative Session. THBI’s members are leading the fight against COVID-19 through research and development, and creating vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, and medical devices to help cure, treat and prevent illness. Strong policies foster innovations and are necessary for our industry to end the current pandemic and prevent future outbreaks on viruses and deadly diseases. The Summit will bring together life science experts to lead the discussions on what it takes to bring a product to the market, and what Texas can do to support good policy. The event will also highlight industry leaders who have furthered innovation in Texas with the presentation of the annual Luminary Awards.

This panel brings together state and federal perspectives to provide insight on legislative initiatives impacting the country as we move from pandemic to a post-COVID environment; what health care issues will be prevalent as we move into a legislative season; and how can the biopharmaceutical industry continue to respond. 4:00p, Luminary Awards The Luminary Award is presented to individuals for the contributions and efforts to further the development of the life science industry in Texas. THBI will be presenting the Luminary Award to all Texas health care workers on the front lines responding to the coronavirus. These selfless people have been thrusted into critical roles during the pandemic to care for patients while risking their own health. To honor their dedication and sacrifice to protect and treat Texans during the COVID-19 pandemic, the membership has chosen to present Texas elected officials in the healthcare profession to accept the award on behalf of those workers. Rohde, PhD, MS, SV/SM/MB(ASCP)CM and the THBI team, Tom Kowalski, Meredith Armstrong, and Patricia Shipton. The post-event virtual reception will be an open forum to ask questions about COVID-19 and what we can expect to see from the pandemic in 2021, answer questions on THBI’s legislative priorities, and provide further insight into how policy makers can continue to support innovation and positive patient health outcomes during the upcoming legislation session.
