The secondary sector consists of the manufacturing industry, energy supply and the construction industry. In 2018 approximately 59,300 people, that is more than one fifth of South Tyrol’s workforce, worked in the over 12,000 businesses in the secondary sector. Of these, 35,200 worked in the manufacturing sector, 3,000 in the energy and environment sector and 21,100 in the construction industry.
