1 Proposed Resolution Supporting SB 5204, Creating the Whole 2 Trust 3 4 WHEREAS health care costs continue to increase unabated, and employer based health care 5 is unavailable in a pandemic, due to record breaking unemployment and business bankruptcy, 6 SB 5204 provides inclusive coverage regardless of employment status. 7 8 WHEREAS the Washington State Democratic platform states, “Health care is a basic human 9 right. Government should work to improve our overall health, while assuring access to high 10 quality, affordable care to everyone”; SB 5204 will “provide comprehensive health care 11 coverage from pre-natal care to end of life services for everyone.”* 12 13 WHEREAS SB 5204 will create a single non-profit, health financing entity, SB 5204 has also 14 been vetted by the Washington State Department of Revenue and Employment Security 15 Division to ensure that it will mesh with their systems. 16 17 WHEREAS SB 5204 would allow for more entrepreneurship, thus alleviating small 18 businesses of concerns regarding health care costs. 19 20 WHEREAS SB 5204 enjoys strong support in the Democratic Party; SB 5204 is sponsored by 21 Senator , Marco Liias, , , Derek Stanford, and Claire 22 Wilson. 23 24 THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Jefferson County Democrats support SB 5204; and 25 26 THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution shall be forwarded 27 to Senator , Representative Mike Chapman, and Representative Steve 28 Tharinger; and 29 30 THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution shall also be sent 31 to the Washington State Democratic Party; and 32 33 THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies shall also be sent to the Leader and 34 the Peninsula Daily News. 35 36 37 Submitted by Lori Bernstein 38 39 *SB 5204, Section 102, Items 10 & 11
