Redshirt sophomore quarterback Mason Mills was one of only two FCS quarterbacks to pass for more than 400 yards in Week 1, completing 27-of-42 passes for 402 yards. www.pioneer-football.org 2011 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEKLY REPORT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Mason Mills, San Diego RS-Sophomore, Quarterback, Coranado, Calif. Mills passed for 402 yards to help San Diego win a 42-40 non-conference contest at Azusa Pacific, Saturday. He was one of only two FCS quarterbacks to pass for more than 400 yards over the opening week of play. Mills completed 27-of-42 passes, including four touch- down strikes. Three of those touchdown throws came in a wild fourth quarter that saw San Diego overcome a 19-15 deficit entering the period. In the fourth, Mills was 8-of-13 for 173 yards, with touchdown throws of 59, six and 35 yards to three different receivers. DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Jerome Raymond, Morehead State Senior, Defensive End, Lawrenceville, Ga. Raymond notching 2½ tackles for loss as part of a Morehead State defensive effort that posted a shutout in a 67-0 non-conference victory against Kentucky Christian, Thursday. His 2½ tackles for loss all came on quarterback sacks which totaled 16 yards for loss and helped the Eagles defense hold Kentucky Christian to 40 offensive yards. Raymond finished the day with five total tackles (two solo) and forced a fumble. He now has a tackle for loss in 13 consecutive games. It is the second consecutive season Raymond has picked up the PFL’s opening week defensive honor. SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK Rainer Duzan, Morehead State Junior, Placekicker/Punter, Dublin, Ohio Duzan kicked for a PFL record 19 points in Morehead State’s 67-0 non-conference win against Kentucky Christian, Thursday. His 19 points came on a school-record tying four field goals, including a career-best 48-yard make, and seven PATs. Duzan also handled both punting and kickoff duties for the Eagles, punting twice for an average of 39.5 yards per punt and kicking off three times for an average of 63.0 yards per kickoff. Now in his 20th season – all at Marist – he entered the season with a 99-96-1 record. His 99 wins were 23rd most by an active FCS head coach entering the season. MOREHEAD STATE’S DUZAN KICKS PFL RECORD | Morehead State’s Rainer MEDIA SERVICES Duzan had a busy opening week, scoring 19 points and setting the PFL record for points PREFERRED NOMENCLATURE scored by kicking. The junior kicker made four field goals, including a personal-best The league’s full name is the Pioneer Football 48-yarder, and was successful on seven of his eight PATs.
