Important Information about Your Insurance Policy and the COVID-19 Pandemic
Why we’re contacting you The New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance (NJDOBI) recently issued an insurance bulletin to help policyholders who are facing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we want to let you know how this may relate to you.
What you need to know
• The NJDOBI has required the grace period for the payment of premiums to be extended to 90 days. MetLife ordinarily provides you with a grace period of at least 60 days and will add an additional 60 days for you to remit your payment, for a total of at least 120 days.
• The NJDOBI’s bulletin allows you to elect this 90-day grace period to begin retroactively on April 1, 2020 or begin on May 1, 2020. As mentioned above, since MetLife is providing you a longer 120-day period to remit your payment, you will be afforded that benefit without needing to make an election.
• We do not impose any late fees or report you to a credit reporting agency regarding late premium payments.
• During this 120-day period, you will remain covered under your insurance policy.
• If you are unable to make a timely premium payment, you will be able to arrange to pay such premium over a 12-month period. Please call 1-800-638-5000 to find out the alternative payment arrangements that may be available to you.
• We will extend to 90 days the period to exercise rights and benefits under your policy.
We’re here to help If you are experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19 and wish to discuss your options, our Customer Service Center is available at 1-800-638-5000 Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.
