The committee made funding proposals to the CCA three years running. All fell on deaf ears. The committee hired a private fund- raiser, obtained some of the artifacts from the Fishers, catalogued that part of the collec- tion, hired a permanent archivist (Cheryl Rielly) who had worked for the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in Toronto, arranged for donated services from architects and lawyers, and expended untold hours of volunteer time and money. The deal looked like a keeper for a time. So much so that a parallel plan to install a museum at the Agridome (now Brandt Centre-Evraz Place) in Regina was derailed leaving several Queen City noses severely disjointed. In the end, the CCA, after paying off the Kitchener fundraising outfi t that raised no funds, pulled the plug on the project. And it has treated direct involvement in subsequent projects as you would a reincarnation of the Black Plague. A Brandon effort of seven years ago, headed by Troy Nott with the assistance of such experienced hands as those of Reid Lumbard, involved a display building at the The Canadian Curling Hall of Fame display is on display on the concourse at Keystone Centre which has housed not only the John Labatt Centre this week. world championships and Olympic trials but a vast Curling World exhibition, to boot. involved. maintain it. The Tim Hortons Brier at the John Labatt Centre reached critical mass Thursday at the completion of round-robin play, and the multitude of tiebreakers everyone usually dreads failed to materialize. This is how the Page playoffs developed Thursday night: Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue won twice on Day Six, finished in top spot with a 9-and- 2 record and was awarded first place (having defeated both Manitoba and Alberta in round-robin play). Manitoba’s Jeff Stoughton of Manitoba split his assignments Thursday, losing 8-5 to Gushue in the morn- ing, and finished second with a 9-and-2 record (having defeated Alberta in round-robin play). Alberta’s Kevin Martin won twice on the final day and finished third with a 9-and-2 record.
