2014 GUIDE Thursday Friday Saturday July 3 July 4 July 5 The Beach Nite Band Main Stage The Main Stage music will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd with the return of a few familiar faces. Formally known as the Collegians, the Beach Nite Band combines a summer feel to popular R&B, soul, disco blues, classic pop and boogie music guaranteed THURSDAY, JULY 3RD to appeal to all ages. The Beach Nite Band, well known for their “Carolina Beach Music,” offers a wide variety of music styles, along with comedic showmanship from members Donnie Hagy, Ron 7 p.m. The Beach Nite Band McCall, Deaton Jones and Steve Mattox. Heppy Kats FRIDAY, JULY 4TH Friday, July 4th at 7 p.m., the Main Stage welcomes the Limestone based Americana style Heppy Kats. Heppy 7 p.m. Heppy Kats Kats are a three-piece band that draws on the influences of Buddy Holly, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Hank Williams Sr. 8 p.m. Trey Hensley and Vince Guaraldi, to craft their original songs. The band consists of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Mike Hilliard, lead guitarist Mike Brobeck and lap steel guitarist Melanie SATURDAY, JULY 5TH Hilliard. Trey Hensely 7 p.m. Spirit of Soul Dance Band Friday, July 4th at 8 p.m., the Main Stage welcomes local favorite and country recording artist Trey Hensley. Keeping true to the roots of country music is necessity for Hensley. After picking up a guitar at the age of 10, he quickly and took the bluegrass world by storm—even performing on the headlining dates in theaters and outdoor venues as well The Main Stage is located on as opening for artists like Steve Wariner, former Alabama front-man Randy Owen, Sara Evans, Marty Stuart and even Courthouse Square. Other Happenings During the Festival Kick Off Dinner Contra Dancing Join us on Thursday, July 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. for the annual kick off dinner sponsored by Food City Join the Historic Jonesborough Dance Society in the Visitors Center on Saturday from 3 to 9:45 at the International Storytelling Center. This year’s menu includes a Low Country Shrimp Boil with p.m. music by the Jonesborough Novelty Band. Tickets are $12 with proceeds going towards funding of the Festival. Contests Pancake Eating Contest - Brought to you by the Olde Towne Pancake House, the contest will begin Parade directly after the parade on Friday on the Courthouse steps. Contest is free to enter, winners receive Everyone's favorite patriotic event during the Festival is taking place on Friday at 10 a.m. Enjoy free pancakes for one year at Olde Towne Pancake House. Call 913-8111 to register. decorated floats, music and much more. Bring the whole family and camp out along Boone and Main Streets to get the best view of the parade. Chili Pepper Eating Contest - We’re keeping it hot this Fourth of July - let’s see how hot you can stand it! Brought to you by Chapo’s Chili Patch and Parson’s Son BBQ. The event begins on Saturday at 5 Fireworks p.m. in front of the Courthouse. Register before 5 p.m. on Friday at the Visitors Center, cost is $2. Come downtown for the best view of the fireworks this year. Grab a funnel cake and a corn dog and get ready for a big show. We’ll be setting them off at 10 p.m. on Saturday from Main Street. Watermelon Eating Contest- It’s not the Fourth without some juicy watermelon! Jonesborough Area Merchants and Service Association is keeping it cool on the Courthouse Steps on Saturday at 1 p.m. Movies on Main There is no charge to participate and winners will receive gift certificates to local merchants. Don’t miss a free showing of Goodbye Miss Fourth of July (filmed in downtown Jonesborough) on Main Street in front of The Lollipop Shop on July 3 and Back to the Future II on July 4. Candy Bingo Jonesborough Repertory Theatre presents begins at 8 followed by the movie at 8:45 p.m. both evenings. Candy Bingo will also take place on 1940s USO Show July 4 at 2 p.m. and July 5 at 2 and 8 p.m. inside The Lollipop Shop. Come out to celebrate with family and friends as the WJRT radio station takes you back to the 1940s with a patriotic theatre production featuring music, radio skits, commercials and dance.
