On behalf of Webb County, we would like to congratulate Chamber of Commerce on 100 years of growth and business and wish them many more! 7/13 Commissioners Court Meeting 9:00am Summer Camp Press Conference 7/20 Jury Duty Webb County Commissioner of Pct. 4, Jaime Canales, continues a summer tradition as he kicked off the season 7/22 New Employee hosting the 5th Annual Educational Summer Camps Orientation program. Commissioner Canales held a press conference in 7/27 Commissioners early June inviting all area children to join in on the fun and Court Meeting 9:00am dedicate time to staying active and being productive. This year’s theme is “Webb County Community Heroes”. The program is offering children the opportunity to sharpen their STAAR objectives, which include Math, Writing and Science Like Us On Facebook lessons through a series of hands on activities and special presentations. -
2020 Legislative Agenda
1 MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR I am Pete Saenz, mayor of the vibrant and historical city of Laredo, Texas. The year 2020 rep- resents the 265th anniversary of the founding of our city by the Crown of Spain as well as the 180th anniversary of the creation of the Republic of the Rio Grande which had Laredo as its capital. Seven independent nations have flown flags over our city throughout our history. Needless to say, we have always been a bold and resilient community. Laredo has a population of approximately 265,000 and is a highly international city bordering the great State of Texas and the Mexican States of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León. Nine out of ten Lar- edoans are bilingual in both English and Spanish, and we are a major world player in international trade. In fact, we are the largest land port in the entire country and the second largest port overall only after the Port of Los Angeles – a sea port. I am very proud to represent a community that is at the crossroads of so many important and press- ing topics that impact our nation’s economy, culture and society. I thank you for taking time to review our city’s perspective on current critical issues such as border and homeland security, public health, comprehensive immigration reform, infrastructure, trade and more. We have a long-standing tradition of creating bilateral connections, bridging two cities, two cul- tures and two nations. And although we are right on the border, we are extremely patriotic. Each year, Laredo hosts the largest and longest celebration of George Washington in the entire country. -

Recognizing the Texas Interscholastic School Mountain Bike Team which is part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association for their dedication and accomplishments. The Texas Interscholastic School Mountain Bike Team noted the group’s honor to represent the City of Laredo. Jose Antonio “JJ” Martinez, Jr., team member, stated that he began cycling at the age of nine with his family and has grown in his love of cycling through competitions. He thanked his family for their love and support of his passion for cycling. Mayor Saenz presented the team members with certificates of recognition for their achievements. 2. Recognizing the Harmony School of Innovations 5th grade Basketball Team for their undefeated & consecutive BC&G Club championship win for the last 5 years, recognizing Harmony's Middle Astra Hawks for winning First Place in the Robot Performance and First Place Champions in Von Ormy Qualifier out of 24 teams, and recognizing the High School Robotics team known as the 6315 Code Error 404 team for currently participating in the First Robotics Competition, the highest level of FIRST programs. Fifth grade basketball team Coach Costillo noted that the teamwork displayed by the teammates has amazes him and truly speaks to the boys’ character. Michael Carrasco, Harmony Middle Astra Hawks sponsor, stated that this team was the champion out of 24 teams at their qualifier competition, making them eligible for the next competition where they placed 3rd place out of 63 teams. -
