MATCHUP GAME NOTES • The Elmira College men’s ice hockey team held onto its spot in the national polls this week after splitting a pair of United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contests last weekend. The No. 15-ranked Soaring Eagles downed reigning conference champion Mahattanville, 2-1, before taking a tough-luck loss to Neumann by a 4-3 final score.

#15 ELMIRA COLLEGE • The Purple and Gold have hung their hat on their power-play unit this season. Elmira leads SOARING EAGLES the nation in power-play efficiency, as the team has converted 34.4% (31-for-90) of its op- (13-5-1, 9-4-0 UCHC) portunities this season. Adding in their penalty kill, the Soaring Eagles rank sixth in combined special teams with a 57.6% success rate. EC is the lone UCHC team to crack the top 10 in both categories.

• No. 4-ranked Utica enters this evening’s contest after tying the program’s highest-ever rank- ing the USCHO polls earlier this week. The Pioneers have won 10 consecutive contests and are fresh off of a 9-1 thrashing of Nazareth. The Pioneers boast the most potent offense in #4 UTICA COLLEGE Division III with an average 5.11 goals per game. Rookie Brandon Osmundson has done much PIONEERS of the heavy lifting for Utica, as he leads the team with 30 points on 10 goals and 20 assists.
