Welcome back and Happy 2010! Page staff hopes you have a healthy and happy New Year. As the cold weather months continue, it is a great time to snuggle up with a book indoors and take time to read! I hope you were all able to have reading time with your child over the winter break. Daily reading will improve your child’s reading and give you a chance to spend time together. Readers are leaders! Winter months mean that we are geared up for making every effort for every day to be successful and that our academics are in full swing! Please help your child attend daily because their attendance has a direct correlation to their performance and progress. Thank you for all your concern, support and thoughts regarding our library. We will be resurrecting the library in the New Year. For now, please see “Library Update” for details. January also brings us some very cold days, so please send your child to school with a warm coat. It would be very helpful if you could also write your child’s name inside of their coats and jackets as the “Lost and Found” continues to fill with unidentified clothing. If you’re missing something please feel free to drop by and check out all the lost items. As 2010 begins, we continue to encourage positive behaviors towards others, celebrating the golden rule by “treating others the way you want to be treated”. We want this rule to be followed throughout life by everyone. Thank you for all you do at home to support our efforts with your children here at school. We would love to see you at our next PTO meeting and or event. Please review the calendar of events and attend as many as your schedule allows. Remember, you make a difference every day! ~Rosalynn It is the policy of Springfield Public Schools and its Board of Education that there will be no discrimination or harassment on the grounds of race, color, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age or disability in any educational programs, activities or employment. Persons having questions about equal opportunity and/or nondiscrimination should contact the Director of Human Resources at 525 Mill Street, Springfield, OR 97477. Contact: Phone (541) 726-3203. Thank you, Springfield School Board Members for your dedication to the children of Page School. We appreciate that you hold the interests of our children at the heart of your decision making. IMMUNIZATION EXCLUSIONS If your child is due for immunizations, please update them as soon as possible. Oregon State exclusion day this year is February 17th. Any students not up-to-date with their immunizations will be excluded from school on that date, until the immunizations are given and we have record of them. Immunizations may be obtained from: 1) Your family Doctor 2) Lane County Health Department at 135 E. 6th (6th and Oak) in Eugene, Wednesdays from 8:00-11:30 am call 682-4041 3) Springfield School Based Health Center behind Springfield High School, call 744-4130. Please bring your childs’ current immunizations records with you. If your child receives additional immunizations, please bring the updated record to the school and give to Susan Wright. She will then update our school records and report to the state. Thank you for your help. Emergency contact Information Please be sure to keep the emergency contact information current with the front office. If there are changes to contact people or phone numbers, be sure to update the school records to reflect those changes. In addition, please be sure that information is current regarding who may pick up your child at school. If someone comes to pick up your student who is not on the designated list, they will not be allowed to do so. Prior permission is needed before we release any child. This process is for the safety of your children, thank you for keeping the information up to date. Doctor and Dentist Appointments We understand that it is often difficult to schedule doctor and dentist appointments before or after school. It also is very important to have your student in school learning as much as possible. If your child has an appointment during the school day, please have him/her attend school before and after the appointment. Also, you may want to check with your child’s teacher when scheduling appointments as to not schedule during math and reading times. Thank you for your cooperation. Cold Weather Please be sure that your student comes to school dressed appropriately for the weather outside. If it is cold or rainy, please send with a coat. Food Drive A big thank you to our students, staff and community. We had a very successful canned food drive this year. Page School collected 2262 food items and was able to help 29 families going through tough times this holiday season. Thanks to all. Page School Library Recently, as you may be aware of, pipes burst in our library! The ceiling is being replaced, the books are being freeze-dried to extract moisture and the hope is to recover as many of our collection as possible. We won’t know much until after the Winter Break. Library classes will be held in the classrooms and there will be NO CHECK OUT until we have the books re-shelved and the technology to complete the process in place. Thank you for your support and understanding. We love our books and plan to have our library operational as soon as we can! Rosalynn Jaeger Weather Closure Information When do we know: If snow or ice is predicted, designated staff take to the road between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. to assess travel conditions on the bus routes. They also take radar maps and forecasts into account, and will determine by 6:30 a.m. at the latest whether schools will be closed, on delay, or operating as usual. If you don’t hear any information about Springfield Public Schools, you can assume that the schools are operating on their normal schedules. After-school activities: If schools are closed on account of weather, all after- school activities are cancelled, including athletic games, practices, and building rentals. Delayed start: If the weather causes a delayed start, morning kindergartens are canceled. The fastest and most reliable way to get information is by checking the District’s website at http://www.sps.lane.edu/weather, or by visiting http://www.flashalert.net/news.html?id=124. Information is also given to the following media outlets: TV Stations: KEZI-TV 9 KVAL-TV 13 KMTR-TV 16 Radio Stations: KUGN 590 AM KXOR 660 AM* KPNW 1120 AM KLCC 89.9 FM KRVM 91.9 FM KKNU 93.1 FM KMGE 94.5 FM KZEL 96.1 FM KNRQ 97.9 FM KOOL 99.1 FM KFLY 101.5 FM DIAL 102.3 FM KDUK 104.7 FM KEUG 105.5 FM KLOO 106.3 FM Snow routes: If conditions warrant it, families who live at certain higher elevations may need to bring their child(ren) to a lower elevation to catch the bus.
