Paul Stevens Paul Stevens Caddie Legend, After Dinner Speaker Paul Stevens toured the world working for many top golfing legends for over 35 years. The longest serving tour caddie, he carried the bag for the likes of Sir Nick Faldo, Greg Norman and Tom Watson as well as supporting The Beatles on stage at the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool. A natural entertainer, Paul Stevens is an excellent after dinner speaker for golf enthusiasts and golf days. His keynotes offer insightful and often surprising glimpses into the world of golf. More about Paul Stevens: Paul began caddying when he was just 12 years of age, at Rochdale Golf Club in the United Kingdom, as a weekend and summer holiday job. However, Paul’s talent as a singer soon took priority and it wasn’t until some years later that he caddied again, this time accompanying his cousin at a professional tournament. Paul’s career immediately took off and the following year he was standing on the 18th green at royal Lytham St Anne’s, on the final round of the Open with the top two professionals in the field, Gary Player and Peter Oosterhuis. Paul went on to win 15 tournaments, and had 10 finishes in the top 15 of The Open Championship, including twice being runner-up. He caddied in the Dunhill Cup, Kirin Cup and World Cup, as well as the Ryder Cup, in matches against the legendary Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. During a long and highly successful career, Paul also caddied for famous players including the legendary Sam Snead, Christy O’Connor Snr., and Ben Crenshaw at the U.S. Masters’ Champion 1984 and 1995; Hubert Green U.S. Open Champion 1977; Bill Rogers Open Champion 1981, Curtis Strange U.S. Open Champion 1988 and 1989, Sandy Lyle Open Champion 1985 and U.S. Masters Champion 1988. He won the Australian Open in 1984 with Tom Watson (three times Open Champion, Masters and U.S. Open Champion at Royal Melbourne, one of the finest courses in the world.     The 1979 Ryder Cup Forty years ago, golf at The Greenbrier graduated. The Greenbrier’s place in golf history had already been cemented by the mid-1900s. From golfing legend Sam Snead, who served as the Golf Professional at America’s Resort™ from 1936 through 1974 — later returning as the Golf Professional Emeritus from 1993 until his death in 2002 — to presidents, dignitaries and celebrities who walked the fairways and putted on the greens, those who understood golf in the United States knew all about The Greenbrier. But it was an event 40 years ago this week that really crowned The Greenbrier as one of golf’s ultimate destinations. In 1976, The Greenbrier hired Jack Nicklaus with one goal in mind, rebuilding The Greenbrier Course to host the Ryder Cup in 1979. The course, which had opened in 1924, had the pedigree, but some changes had to be made for it to host the best in the world. So, for 22 months, Nicklaus and his team focused HAROLD VARNER III HAROLD VARNER on every hole on the course. The greens were rebuilt, a lake was added, the number of bunkers was increased to 44, and par went from 70 to 72.
