Turnitin: Submitting a Paper through a Canvas Assignment

This guide will help you submit your paper to Turnitin through a Canvas assignment. Before you proceed, please note the following file types that are accepted by Turnitin:

Word™ • Rich Text Format (RTF) • WordPerfect® • Portable Document Format (PDF) • HTML • Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT< PPTX, and • Adobe PostScript® PPS) • Plain text (TXT) • (HWP)

Step 1. From the Assignments tab in your Canvas course, click on the assignment you would like to submit.

Step 2. Click Upload Submission to make a submission to the assignment.

NOTE: If the Upload Submission button is unavailable, you may be attempting to submit before the start date or after the due date. Click the Summary tab to check your assignment’s key dates and any additional settings that may be affecting your submission.

PAPER INPUT SUBMISSION

The upload submission option allows you to submit your paper to the assignment by directly loading the file from your device.

Step 1. Enter a Submission Title in the box provided.

Step 2. You can opt to upload your file in one of two ways:

1. Click Select a file to upload and locate the file on your device. 2. Drag the file you would like to submit into the box.

Step 3. Click Continue to upload the file to Turnitin, allow the file to process, then review it carefully on the next screen. Alternatively, click Cancel to locate a different file.

NOTE: If resubmissions are not enabled for this assignment, you may not be able to resolve any incorrect submissions.

TEXT INPUT SUBMISSION

The text input submission option allows you to submit text from word processors or file types that Turnitin does not support. You can also use this method to submit specific parts or areas of a document that may need a Similarity Report to be generated.

NOTE: Only text can be submitted via this method. Any graphics, graphs, images and formatting are lost when pasting text into the submission text box.

Step 1. Click the Text Input tab.

Step 2. Enter a Submission Title in the box provided.

Step 3. Type or paste the text of your submission into the Submission Text box.

Step 4. Click the Continue button to proceed with the submission, allow the text to process, then review it carefully on the next screen.

Step 5. Click Accept Submission & Save to submit the file to Turnitin. Alternatively, click Cancel Submission if you need to make any changes.

Cloud Submission

You can upload a file directly from your Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive account.

Step 1. Click on the Additional Options drop-down menu and select either Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.

Step 2. Locate your file within Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive, allow the file to process, then review it carefully on the next screen.
