MOBILE OPERATING SYSTEM TRANSITION Insights and Considerations Mobile Operating System Transition – Insights and Considerations | www.honeywellaidc.com 1 Introduction A shift in the mobile operating system landscape has occurred over the last several years. The transition from legacy Windows® is well underway. While there remain several distinct choices on the roadmap, the tradeoffs and compromises associated with each have become clearer. This paper will elaborate on these points and provide the reader with guidance on recommended solutions. Windows CE and Windows Mobile (later Windows Embedded Handheld) offered industrial Wi-Fi features and capabilities needed for enterprise deployment, while a robust ecosystem of networks and developer tools and third-party offerings allowed customers to create the solution needed barcode scanning to effectively operate and manage their businesses. Apple had only recently shown the first capabilities. iPhone®. Google acquired Android™ a few years earlier and had yet to see a phone come to market. Other options available at that time were largely focused around the white collar professional user and proved largely unsuitable for the unique needs of the purpose-built enterprise environment. -
Download Android Os for Phone Open Source Mobile OS Alternatives to Android
download android os for phone Open Source Mobile OS Alternatives To Android. It’s no exaggeration to say that open source operating systems rule the world of mobile devices. Android is still an open-source project, after all. But, due to the bundle of proprietary software that comes along with Android on consumer devices, many people don’t consider it an open source operating system. So, what are the alternatives to Android? iOS? Maybe, but I am primarily interested in open-source alternatives to Android. I am going to list not one, not two, but several alternatives, Linux-based mobile OSes . Top Open Source alternatives to Android (and iOS) Let’s see what open source mobile operating systems are available. Just to mention, the list is not in any hierarchical or chronological order . 1. Plasma Mobile. A few years back, KDE announced its open source mobile OS, Plasma Mobile. Plasma Mobile is the mobile version of the desktop Plasma user interface, and aims to provide convergence for KDE users. It is being actively developed, and you can even find PinePhone running on Manjaro ARM while using KDE Plasma Mobile UI if you want to get your hands on a smartphone. 2. postmarketOS. PostmarketOS (pmOS for short) is a touch-optimized, pre-configured Alpine Linux with its own packages, which can be installed on smartphones. The idea is to enable a 10-year life cycle for smartphones. You probably already know that, after a few years, Android and iOS stop providing updates for older smartphones. At the same time, you can run Linux on older computers easily. -

Samsung's next Galaxy S must beat old 2 smartphones to drive upgrades, not recent models Samsung is competing with the models it launched several years ago, and not last years’ Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and Note 8 because it is far too soon for purchasers of those models to buy a new phone. With new flagship smartphone launches, Samsung must persuade existing smartphone owners to upgrade to the new model. As the smartphone market matures, consumers are tempted to hold on to their smartphone for longer. By looking at IHS Markit active installed base data sets which track smartphones that are currently in use we can compare the features of Samsung’s latest flagship with the most common models consumers own and use now. These smartphone owners are Samsung’s main upgrade targets for its 2018 flagship smartphone models. Globally, the most common Samsung flagship models in use are Samsung’s S7 and S7 Edge (2016) with a combined 5.26% share, 2015’s Galaxy S6 with 1.78% share, and the four year old Galaxy S5 with 1.4% share of the active installed base. It is these models consumers will compare a new Samsung Galaxy flagship smartphone against. -

Magneticspy: Exploiting Magnetometer in Mobile Devices for Website and Application Fingerprinting
MagneticSpy: Exploiting Magnetometer in Mobile Devices for Website and Application Fingerprinting NIKOLAY MATYUNIN∗, TU Darmstadt, CYSEC, Germany YUJUE WANG†, TU Darmstadt, Germany TOLGA ARUL∗, TU Darmstadt, CYSEC, Germany KRISTIAN KULLMANN†, TU Darmstadt, Germany JAKUB SZEFER‡, Yale University, USA STEFAN KATZENBEISSER‡, Chair of Computer Engineering, University of Passau, Germany Recent studies have shown that aggregate CPU usage and power consumption traces on smartphones can leak information about applications running on the system or websites visited. In response, access to such data has been blocked for mobile applications starting from Android 8. In this work, we explore a new source of side-channel leakage for this class of attacks. Our method is based on the fact that electromagnetic activity caused by mobile processors leads to noticeable disturbances in magnetic sensor measurements on mobile devices, with the amplitude being proportional to the CPU workload. Therefore, recorded sensor data can be analyzed to reveal information about ongoing activities. The attack works on a number of devices: we evaluated 80 models of modern smartphones and tablets and observed the reaction of the magnetometer to the CPU activity on 56 of them. On selected devices we were able to successfully identify which application has been opened (with up to 90% accuracy) or which web page has been loaded (up to 91% accuracy). The presented side channel poses a significant risk to end users’ privacy, as the sensor data can be recorded from native apps or even from web pages without user permissions. Finally, we discuss possible countermeasures to prevent the presented information leakage.
