Nandyal – Mandal, Kurnool – District, Andhra Pradesh – State; India Location of the Project: VENKATACHALAM COLONY (village), NANDYAL – MANDAL, KURNOOL – DISTRICT, ANDHRA PRADESH – STATE; INDIA Beneficiaries of the Project: 600 Day LABORers or DAILY WORKERS and their FAMILIES Project Proposal This is a colony (village) adjoining to Nandyal called “Venkatachalam Colony”. It has a population of around 600 families, all of them migrated from different places in search of daily work and formed this labor community. Due to the irregular monsoons and failure of agriculture in many of the villages, people are forced to get out of their villages in search of daily work to maintain their families. The town of Nandyal, which is adjoining to this colony, provides them daily work of either road building, working in small factories or house construction. The people of this village go very early in the morning to work and return in the late afternoon. The living facilities are very minimal, poor or even non-existent. Drinking water in these circumstances is a big problem. They have to go very far to fetch a pot of water to drink and there is practically no water for other usages. The people of this colony are presenting their extremely difficult situation and asking if you could help them with a bore well in the middle of their colony where everyone would be able to get water to drink and available water for all purposes. The head man of the colony will be in charge of the bore well to oversee its maintenance and future repairs. The people of this village will be forever grateful to you and your donors. The GPS will be: 15.476611, 78475980. The colony in the GPS is near Ramanjineyaswamy Temple. Thank you so much Lloyd. Fr. Shoury. How the Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh, India, fought Corona (Case study). SEEJPH 2020, posted: 18 November 2020. DOI: 10.4119/seejph-3963 Abstract Background: Kurnool, one of the four districts in the Rayalaseema region of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, emerged as a COVID-19 hotspot by mid-April 2020. Method: The authors compiled the publicly available information on different public health measures in Kurnool district and related them to the progression of COVID-19 from March to May 2020. Results: Two surges in pandemic progression of COVID-19 were recorded in Kurnool. The ini- tial upsurge in cases was attributed to return of people from other Indian states, along with return of participants of a religious congregation in Delhi, followed by in-migration of workers and truckers from other states and other districts of Andhra Pradesh, particularly from the state of Maharashtra (one of the worst affected states in India) and Chennai (the Koyambedu wholesale market - epicenter of the largest cluster of COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu).
